The distance between Greystone Golf and Country Club in Hoover, Alabama, and Children’s of Alabama is less than 20 miles. But the true connection between the Regions Tradition and one of the nation’s leading pediatric medical centers runs far deeper than geography.
It is a relationship built over more than three decades—measured not in miles, but in lives changed, medical breakthroughs supported, and hope restored to countless families across the Southeast.
A Legacy of Giving Back
Since its inception, the Regions Tradition has generated more than $25 million for charitable causes, making it one of the most impactful events on the PGA TOUR Champions schedule. Each year, the tournament highlights and supports a group of meaningful community organizations, including:
At the heart of its mission, however, is its primary beneficiary: Children’s of Alabama.
Over the past decade alone, millions of dollars from the Regions Tradition have been directed to the hospital—funding advancements that directly improve patient care, family support programs, and life-saving treatments.
“It’s a great opportunity for us,” said Tom Shufflebarger, CEO of Children’s of Alabama. “The financial results are critical to maintaining our technology, supporting our people, and creating a child-friendly environment—the things insurance doesn’t necessarily cover but are essential to who we are.”

The Impact Fund: Powering Innovation in Pediatric Care
A significant portion of the tournament’s proceeds supports the hospital’s Impact Fund—a vital initiative designed to fund cutting-edge programs, advanced medical equipment, and innovative therapies that would otherwise go unfunded.
Through the Impact Fund, Children’s of Alabama has been able to invest in transformative resources such as:
- Acute Kidney Dialysis technology, expanding treatment possibilities—even for infants
- AirStrip Remote Monitoring System, enabling real-time patient care from virtually anywhere
- Berlin Heart® EXCOR Pediatric Ventricular Assist Device (VAD), providing life-saving support for children awaiting heart transplants
- Gait Lab technology, enhancing physical and occupational therapy outcomes through advanced modeling
- Rehabilitation services at Lakeshore Foundation, bringing therapy closer to patients through community partnerships
These innovations represent more than just technological progress—they are critical tools that help save lives, shorten recovery times, and improve long-term outcomes for children facing complex medical challenges.
The Real Impact: Stories of Strength and Hope
While the numbers and technology are impressive, the true measure of the Regions Tradition’s impact is found in the stories of the children and families served by Children’s of Alabama.
Each year during the tournament’s Wednesday Celebrity Pro-Am, patient ambassadors from the hospital are invited to participate—meeting professional golfers and celebrities, standing on the first tee, and sharing their journeys.
In 2026, ambassadors Shep, Sean, and Ali Lee represented the hospital with courage and resilience. Each child’s story reflected a different path—ranging from complex surgeries and rehabilitation therapies to ongoing treatment for sickle cell disease and leukemia.
Their presence served as a powerful reminder: behind every dollar raised and every program funded is a child with dreams, a family seeking answers, and a community rallying in support.
A Tournament That Goes Beyond the Fairway
The Regions Tradition is more than a premier golf event—it is a driving force for change. By connecting sports, philanthropy, and community engagement, the tournament continues to expand its reach and deepen its impact year after year.
As players compete on the course, something even more meaningful is happening off it: children are receiving life-saving care, families are finding hope, and the future of pediatric medicine is being shaped.
Because in the end, the true victory isn’t measured on the leaderboard—it’s found in a brighter future made possible through the power of giving.
In addition to receiving significant support each year from the Regions Tradition, patients and families also get an opportunity to meet and spend time with some extra special visitors, courtesy of the tournament. In 2026, in addition to visits from local and collegiate mascots, PGA TOUR pro Ken Duke visited and gave the kids some pointers.
As part of the 2025 Regions Tradition, fans had an opportunity to color on a canvas. The painting was saved and presented to Children’s of Alabama, and the finished image now resides in a newly opened Children’s facility providing outpatient services.
