‘Like Stepping Into the Future’

Birmingham and Jefferson County leaders get tour of overhauled, high-tech main branch and join for ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Regions Bank celebrated the grand opening of its reimagined main branch at the company’s Alabama headquarters with a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring city and county officials, customers and Regions associates.

“What you are standing in is our Nexus design,” said Leroy Abrahams, North Central Alabama Area President of Regions. “It’s an evolution of the last several years, starting with the UAB branch three years ago.”

The branch in the Regions Center in downtown Birmingham reflects Regions’ latest concept in branch banking. Built around customer needs, it features upgraded technology, empowering more people to bank when, where and how they want. The branch also places a premium on personal service. Instead of waiting in line, customers are greeted by one of 11 universal bankers, financial professionals who can offer a wide range of branch-banking needs.

The doors first opened March 6 to new and existing customers after renovation to create the modern facility.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the opportunity to show the versatility of the branch and the universal bankers to city leaders, including Birmingham Mayor William Bell. Using giant scissors and assisted by Abrahams and Jefferson County Commissioners David Carrington and Joe Knight and the Birmingham Business Alliance’s Brian Hilson, Bell greeted visitors before slicing the green tape in two.

“To see the transformation into the new space from the old space is like stepping into the future,” Bell said. “Now, we have a new, state-of-the-art branch.”

Universal bankers can help with opening an account or assist with a transaction, but they can also assist with more in-depth needs, including developing a personal budget or planning to meet future needs.

The branch also features Regions Video Banking and Video Banking ATMs, with additional ATMs just outside.

Carrington toured the facility then offered his assessment: “From the lights to the look to the technology, this is something you can be very proud of,” he said.

Hilson, President of the Birmingham Business Alliance, noted Regions’ economic impact on the community.

“From a different perspective, this is Alabama’s only Fortune 500 company,” Hilson said. “They are incredibly important – not only to Birmingham, but to Alabama. Trust me, we don’t take it for granted.”
