BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – March 2, 2017 – Regions Bank is formally unveiling the company’s latest concept in branch banking, one that will be seen in communities served by Regions throughout the Southeast, Midwest and Texas.

This new concept is built around today’s consumers. It is a bank branch that blends the best in personal service with the latest in technology, empowering more people to bank when, where and how they want.

The concept is on display at Regions’ newly rebuilt headquarters branch at the base of the Regions Center tower in downtown Birmingham. The branch is scheduled to open Monday, March 6 at 9 a.m.

“This new branch design provides greater convenience and more value for the customers we serve,” said Scott Peters, head of Consumer Services for Regions. “We are firmly committed to relationship banking, where we have in-depth conversations with customers and offer advice, guidance and education to help them succeed financially. We are also updating our technology to provide more access to services well beyond traditional banking hours. The result is a branch-banking experience that is custom-tailored to meet more customers’ needs.”

The open design of the branch, located at 1900 5th Avenue North, does not include a traditional teller line. Instead, customers are welcomed directly by Regions’ Universal Bankers.

Universal Bankers are local financial professionals who meet a wide range of branch-banking needs. If a customer is looking to open an account or conduct a transaction, a Universal Banker can help. However, if a customer is also looking for a more in-depth conversation about creating a savings plan, developing a personal budget or building a roadmap to reach future goals, a Universal Banker can meet those needs as well.

The branch also offers Regions Video Banking. Video Banking ATMs within the branch – as well as in the adjacent Regions Center lobby – connect customers with an experienced Regions Video Banker via live, two-way video. Video Bankers speak directly with customers about their banking needs and can process most teller transactions while also helping people with account maintenance and general inquiries.

Regions Video Bankers are available during extended hours on weekdays (7 a.m. – 8 p.m. CT). They are also available on Saturdays (8 a.m. – 5 p.m. CT), Sundays (11 a.m. – 5 p.m. CT) and most holidays.

Regions is also offering DepositSmart ATM service in the Regions Center lobby, which is accessible around the clock. In addition to dispensing cash, Regions DepositSmart ATMs can accept deposits and cash checks for customers at any time.

Universal Banking stations are designed to foster discussions between local bankers and customers. Adjacent meeting rooms are available for more in-depth financial discussions.

“One of the greatest aspects of this branch design is that it is highly customizable, both in terms of size and features, for individual communities,” Peters said. “In some locations, we will offer a combination of Universal Banking as well as traditional teller positions. In other locations, we can offer drive-through areas with Video Banking, DepositSmart service or both. As we look to renovate existing branches or develop new locations in the coming years, we will identify the services that work best for the customers in those unique areas and then customize branch plans from there.”

“While we continue to invest in our online and mobile banking options, branch locations remain the primary place where people choose to open accounts with us,” added Leroy Abrahams, North Central Alabama Area President for Regions Bank. “Our branch strategy is built around the needs of today’s consumers. This new design reflects how we’re making a visit to the branch more convenient and more meaningful. We look forward to offering these services and technologies in more locations in the future.”

Similar locations will soon open, or have recently opened, in Trussville, Ala.; Memphis, Tenn.; Nashville, Tenn., Fort Worth, Texas; metro Houston, Texas; suburban Indianapolis and in Arnold, Mo., near St. Louis.
