Andrea Davis-Lloyd always knew she wanted to be a nurse. But it was after the Covid-19 pandemic when she was finally prepared to scrub in.
She turned to what’s called a “job intermediary.” It’s a program that recognizes the workforce needs of today’s employers – such as health care providers – and then connects with training centers that welcome people in, teach them new skills, and get them ready for rewarding jobs.
That means, today, Andrea is on the path to becoming a registered nurse, balancing her studies with work at the NOVA Workforce Institute.

“NOVA gave me a sense of purpose and self-worth,” she said. “After taking advantage of the program, I started working at NOVA as I continue schooling toward becoming an RN. The support I received allowed me to pursue my dream of becoming a nurse.”
NOVA is in Northeast Louisiana. But the same concept is increasingly creating new opportunities for people across the country. And the Regions Foundation, a nonprofit funded primarily by Regions Bank, is supporting NOVA as part of the Foundation’s broader commitment to workforce development.
Specifically, a $50,000 grant from the Regions Foundation is helping ensure NOVA services remain available to people like Andrea.
Kevin Smith, Monroe market executive for Regions Bank, presented the donation on behalf of the Regions Foundation at NOVA’s 8th Annual Update to the Community Luncheon. Over 400 attendees—including business leaders, community members, and interfaith partners—gathered to recognize NOVA’s transformative impact.
“Access to education and assistance is crucial in uncovering career opportunities,” said Regions Foundation Executive Director Marta Self. “By supporting NOVA, we are solving the needs of the workforce and helping to build an all-around stronger community.”
Andrea is one of many success stories spanning multiple generations. The luncheon featured testimonials from NOVA graduates, including Dr. PaShanna McGinniss and Cameron Warbington, who shared how NOVA helped them secure sustainable employment and achieve career milestones.

“NOVA instills hope, help, and opportunity in those we serve,” said Paul E. West, executive director for NOVA Workforce Institute. “By addressing workforce challenges and providing tools for success, we are not just preparing individuals for jobs; we are building a thriving regional economy.”
Graham Ralston, Commercial Banking regional executive for Regions Bank’s Louisiana territory, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the importance of workforce development in creating sustainable communities.
“NOVA is in the business of building stronger communities,” Ralston said. “This work is accomplished by connecting people and businesses with incredible resources. The impact is not only a stronger economy, it’s also creating greater prosperity for people and their families right here at home.”
Since its founding, NOVA has placed more than 1,350 people into the workforce. The Regions Foundation grant will support collaborations with institutions like Louisiana Delta Community College and Opportunities Industrialization Center of Ouachita, ensuring NOVA participants receive industry-specific training and skills needed to secure living-wage employment.

“These funds will allow NOVA to continue providing career readiness services, financial coaching, and tuition assistance to individuals pursuing high-demand occupations,” said Juanita Woods, deputy director for NOVA Workforce Institute. “Together we can bridge the gap between workforce needs and the aspirations of people like Andrea.”
