Regions recognizes Veterans Day Nov. 11 and celebrates military veterans and their families all year long. Through a variety of recruitment, development and mentoring programs, Regions seeks to build the best team through hiring and developing military members, military veterans and military spouses.
We spoke with Regions Bank associates who are military veterans about how their military experience impacts their work today.
Meet Kenneth E. Davis
How do you feel your military service has impacted your work at Regions?
“As a Project Manager, the experiences I gained in the military prepared me for what I do now. In the military, my job was vital for saving lives, so proper planning and contingency planning (and contingency for the contingency) was critical. We had to look at all scenarios from every angle, ground to sky, inside out, and determine what could go wrong and plan for that. We had to ensure that every single person was not only equipped with the knowledge they needed to do their job but had functioning equipment to protect their own lives. At Regions, we take care of people’s financial livelihoods, so with every project we have to make sure there will be no negative impact when we deploy. Also, as a Project Manager, I try to make sure everyone on the team feels that I care about them as a person and not just a resource to get the job done. A project is a mission, we are one unit functioning for a greater good, we take care to each other and when the job is done we celebrate what we accomplished together.”

How do you feel your military service has impacted your work at Regions?
“I’ve always been an HR specialist, even in the military. So when I was able to find an opportunity in the civilian sector where I’ve always been working, I was like, ‘Yes, this is perfect. This is for me!’”
“I feel the military helped me by allowing me to have accountability for my actions, allowing me to have a foundation in which I can provide my skills in any organization. I would say the top skills that I utilized the most from the military would be dependability. Anything that I do, I do with the best of my effort. Also, selflessness. I feel like when you’re joining an organization, you’re joining something that’s bigger than you. So you have to set aside your personal obstacles or conflicts and just work as a team. Put your best foot forward to get the job done and get the mission complete.”
Meet Robert L. Brackbill, III
How do you feel your military service has impacted your work at Regions?
“My military service has greatly influenced my work at Regions. Most importantly to me, I still use the Warrior Ethos to guide my approach to my projects and initiatives as well as how I interact with peers and the associates under my management. The Warrior Ethos is a set of four tenets that outline a mindset to approach any goal that one can set for themselves: 1) I will always place the mission first, 2) I will never accept defeat, 3) I will never quit, and 4) I will never leave a fallen comrade.”
“When thinking about my ‘mission’ nowadays, it directly relates to the initiatives and projects launched within my Credit Card Operations team focused on continuous improvement and modernization. This approach allows me to focus on the successful outcomes and make sound, data-driven business decisions. To never quit and never accept defeat go hand in hand when it relates to the challenges of creating solutions for the variety of complex obstacles we face on any given day. This allows us to not be discouraged if we hit a setback, but also move forward with the right decisions and solutions. Lastly, never leaving a fallen comrade can be applied to my seniors, peers and associates. If I can be of assistance in developing someone’s knowledge or skillsets, it does not matter at what level, I will willingly lend my expertise. We are collectively responsible for making each other better performers to promote success for the organization.”

Program Spotlight: Military Spouse Employment Partnership
The Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) is a Department of Defense career program connecting military spouses with hundreds of partner employers who commit to recruit, hire, promote and retain military spouses. Regions was inducted into the partnership in 2020, becoming one of 500 corporate members. The MSEP helps military spouses find employment to achieve their career goals, despite the challenges of frequent relocation. Unemployment among military spouses is far higher than the general public — around 24%. This is due to the frequent relocating and “restarting” of careers. Military spouses from all branches of the armed forces can use the MSEP’s job search to access career opportunities offered by MSEP partners worldwide. And this now includes jobs at Regions. A dedicated MSEP specialist works with Regions, recommending candidates to jobs and jobs to candidates.
