When Valerie, a Regions Investment Operations Specialist in Huntsville, got the news that her daughter Gianna had been awarded a Regions Dependent Scholarship, she was ecstatic.
“I felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude, and I was just so proud of her,” Valerie said. “Having Gianna’s hard work and dedication recognized in this way by my employer was deeply meaningful to us as a family.”
The Regions Dependent Scholarship is one example of the company’s commitment to supporting associates and their families.
Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic achievement and extracurricular leadership. Awards may be renewed, providing long-term support throughout a student’s college career.
The scholarship was more than a financial boost — it was a game-changer. Gianna is currently a sophomore at Mississippi State University, where she lives on campus and is pursuing her dream of becoming a broadcast meteorologist.
Thanks to the scholarship, Gianna can focus on her studies in one of the top meteorology programs in the country, surrounded by a network of professionals who inspire her — including industry legend James Spann.
The scholarship’s impact has been significant, Valerie says, easing financial stress and allowing Gianna the freedom to fully pursue her calling. Gianna is making the most of the opportunity: she’s on the President’s List, serves as a professional organizations senator in the Student Association, and is active in philanthropic groups such as Dance Marathon and Students for St. Jude. She’s also a proud member of Maroon VIP and professional meteorology organizations including the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society.
Gianna displays her Mississippi State cowbell — a good-luck gift from the Huntsville MSU Alumni Chapter that she later transformed with a hand-painted design inspired by the 2011 supercell tornado that impacted the region.
Programs like the Regions Dependent Scholarship reflect the company’s broader approach to benefits — designed to support associates at every stage of life and help their families thrive.
“This scholarship means so much more than financial assistance,” Valerie says. “It was incredibly affirming to know that Regions values not only its associates but also their families and their children’s futures. It’s what makes Regions such a great company to work for.”
