The weather at the 2025 Regions Tradition has been postcard perfect. Halfway through the four-round major event on the PGA TOUR Champions schedule, that’s meant ideal conditions for Richard Green.
The Aussie is the leader after two rounds of the Tradition, following up a sizzling first-round 63 with a solid second round to go 13-under at the midway point. That’s one stroke ahead of Steven Alker.
Y.E. Yang, Chris DiMarco and former champ Alex Cejka are tied for third at 9-under. Miguel Angel Jimenez, the 2018 Regions winner, is among a trio tied for sixth at 8-under.
Local favorite Stewart Cink stands at 7-under. Cink grew up in Florence, Alabama, two hours northwest of Greystone Golf and Country Club, before heading to Georgia Tech for college.
At 54, Green is in search of his first Champions tour victory, but he’s come close before. He forced two playoffs previously, dropping the Dominion Energy Classic on the first sudden-death hole in 2023 and losing on the fourth playoff hole to Steve Stricker in the 2024 Sanford Invitational. Stricker has a record three Regions Tradition titles, most recently in 2023.
Green played much of his career on the PGA Tour of Australia, where he won twice before moving to the European Senior Tour, where he won three times. On the Champions Tour, he’s known as one of the best putters in the sport.
The final two rounds of the Regions Tradition are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday and will be televised by the Golf Channel.
The impact of the Tradition goes far beyond the golf course by:
- Supporting local nonprofits and the tournament’s primary beneficiary – Children’s of Alabama. Since the tournament started 32 years ago, it’s raised $24 million for Children’s and other charities.
- The adaptive clinic which helps introduce individuals with disabilities to the game of golf.
- Providing a much-needed economic boost to the area, and to local small businesses, in particular. Yearly, the Regions Tradition has an economic impact of more than $25 million.
- Offering a one-of-a-kind community event that is family-friendly, fun and offers something for everyone – from great food, to music, to sun and fun … and of course, great professional golf.
The Hoover Police Department Honor Guard and Miriam Hodges helped kick off Military Appreciation Day at the Regions Tradition, supporting the PGA TOUR’s partnership with Folds of Honor.
