Some Assembly Required

Ascentium team members in Central Arizona build furniture for Habitat, deeper relationships with each other.

Craig Colling is the first person to tell you he doesn’t build a lot of things around the house.

Actually, maybe the second.

“My wife was very surprised to learn what I did that day,” said Colling, Vendor Sales Channel manager with Ascentium Capital in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Colling credits his teammate, Andrea Williams, for helping him push past his construction comfort zone when he joined her and six teammates to assemble patio furniture at Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona’s ReStore this spring.

“Andrea does a great job of organizing our quarterly volunteer projects,” said Colling. “She thoughtfully researches volunteer opportunities with organizations where our associates are personally involved and identifies interactive ways for us to give back.”

“I’m kind of the mama bear of our team,” said Williams, a Sales coordinator. “I enjoy coordinating projects that allow us to make an impact and bring everyone together socially, too.”

Each year, Meghan Herrick, Volunteer coordinator with Habitat’s Central Arizona affiliate, relies on nearly 3,800 volunteers like Colling, Williams and more who donate 57,000-plus service hours.

“When groups like Ascentium volunteer at our ReStores, they are completing projects in a couple of hours that would’ve taken our staff weeks to complete, said Herrick. “The Ascentium team was an eager group who did whatever task we asked with a smile. And a chair they built sold while they were there, allowing them to see how their actions directly support our mission.”
