Cyber Safety First

Regions associates share best practices for keeping your devices and data safe.

By Kyndle Huey | October 3, 2023

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, a collaborative effort between government and industry to raise understanding nationally and internationally. 2023 marks the 20th annual Cybersecurity Awareness Month and all month long, Regions will be providing tips, information and resources on how you can stay cyber aware to make smart decisions that keep you, your family and your community safe online.

We live in an increasingly digital world. From mobile devices to internet connected smart home appliances, we rely on technology to communicate with another and make everyday tasks easier. That’s why it’s more important than ever to be aware of cyber threats and practice cybersecurity basics.

You don’t have to be a cybersecurity expert to help stay safe online but you do need to follow a few best practices. Regions’ cybersecurity professionals share tips for protecting yourself and your family from cyber threats.

Adam Perino

Multi-Factor Authentication options are now amazingly convenient and immediate. Enabling them will help secure your accounts while fraudsters focus on easier targets merely protected by a password.

Joseph Weber, Cyber Threat Hunter

Utilize a password manager to generate strong and unique passwords to websites. Don’t let the compromise of one website password be the compromise of all your website passwords.”

Olaniyi Akinsanya

When connecting to a Public Wi-Fi, remember to use your best judgement on whether to access your bank account, make online purchases, or access any application that contains sensitive information.

Laura Betts, Cyber Threat Intel Analyst

Consider using a web browser with privacy in mind – – there are browsers available that have features to protect your privacy, such as blocking ads and web trackers, and provide assurances that your information will not be sold to third parties.

Lanier Waltz

Make it a habit to hover over a link in an email or browser to view the full URL and verify its legitimacy. This technique can help you preview the destination of a link before you click!

As part of Cybersecurity Awareness Month, Regions is also supporting the ABA’s anti-phishing campaign and reminding customers and the community that #BanksNeverAskThat. Learn more.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month is co-managed by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and National Cybersecurity Alliance. The information presented is general in nature and should not be considered, legal, accounting or tax advice. Regions reminds its customers that they should be vigilant about fraud and security and that they are responsible for taking action to protect their computer systems. Fraud prevention requires a continuous review of your policies and practices, as the threat evolves daily. There is no guarantee that all fraudulent transactions will be prevented or that related financial losses will not occur. Visit regions.com/FRAUDPREVENTION or speak with your Banker for further information on how you can help prevent fraud.
