SEC Sneak Peek with Ramon Foster

Ex-Tennessee, Pittsburgh Steeler great and current on-air Nashville sports talk host picks “trench monster” Georgia Bulldogs to repeat … but keep an eye on the Aggies.

By Mel Campbell | August 22, 2023

If anyone knows what it’s like working in the trenches, it’s Ramon Foster. Even today, three years removed from his retirement from the NFL, he still casts a long shadow – from his days as a Tennessee Volunteer to blocking for the likes of Steeler greats like Hines Ward and Ben Roethlisberger or giving his opinions daily to sports-talk radio fans.

And at still well over six feet tall and nearly 300 pounds, his radio listeners might not know that he looks like he could suit up and play for nearly any team in the SEC.

That is, except for Georgia, which he calls “a trench monster.”

Having grown up in Tennessee, with a brother (Renaldo Foster) who also played in the NFL, the “Big Ragu” lit up SEC teams as a two-time All SEC lineman. He became one of those unlikely heroes who wasn’t a high draft pick, yet eventually became one of the best in the game.

“Beating Georgia is high on my alumni’s list,” Foster admitted. “But that’s everybody’s goal right now.”

And as for the other side of the SEC – the West – Foster has a pick that he said is based on how well they’ve recruited in recent years. “I don’t think the West is an easy conference to win,” he said, but he has an inclination toward a new name that might be headed to Atlanta in December.

Oh, and check out his picks for players you need to see this season.
