Circle of Influence

How a Regions leader is channeling his workforce passion to bring new careers to the Mid-South.

By Kim Borges | June 1, 2022

“A problem is nothing more than an opportunity.”

It’s been David May’s mindset in helping people tackle challenges since his first job at a North Mississippi hardware store decades ago. And it remains his approach today as he embarks on his newest community leadership opportunity as chairman of the Greater Memphis Chamber’s Chairman’s Circle, an initiative focused on advancing economic development and workforce readiness throughout the Mid-South.

Given its alignment with the Regions Bank’s strategic community priorities, the Chairman’s Circle role is perfectly suited for May, who leads Commercial Banking for Regions’ Mid-America territory and serves as market executive for Memphis. It’s also a role that combines May’s inquisitive and strategic nature in examining issues with his resourceful and collaborative skills in working with fellow business leaders and community partners to address them.

“No one company can make as big of an impact as a subset of 145,” said May of the value of bringing together executives from fellow Chariman’s Circle member companies to achieve a lasting effect. “We’re focused on organizing all of the community leaders who want to help.”

May recently sat down with the Daily Memphian to discuss his passion for workforce readiness and the valuable insights he gained from his own first employment experience. Learn more through this in-depth article; it’s open to all readers, including non-subscribers, after a quick registration.
