Local Experience. Local Commitment. Regions Bank Names Corey McWhorter as Market Executive Serving Anniston and Gadsden, Ala.

Experienced Anniston native to build on Regions’ competitive service and strategic community support in Calhoun County.

By Jennifer Elmore | November 16, 2021

ANNISTON, Ala. – Nov. 16, 2021 – Regions Bank on Tuesday announced Corey McWhorter is expanding his role with the company to serve as market executive for the bank in his hometown of Anniston as well as nearby Gadsden.

McWhorter joined Regions in 2014 as a Commercial Banking relationship manager, helping provide financial insights and solutions to businesses across East Alabama. Earlier this year, McWhorter was named as Gadsden market executive for the bank. His newly expanded leadership role will now include serving as market executive for the bank in Anniston as well, delivering hometown insights and leadership as Regions Bank’s teams build on their relationships with clients across Calhoun County, Etowah County, and surrounding areas.

McWhorter succeeds Linda Jenkins in serving as market executive for Anniston. Jenkins recently retired from Regions following a 46-year career defined by customized service to the area – a legacy McWhorter will carry forward. Jenkins herself will continue to support Regions’ services to the community as a member of the bank’s local advisory board.

“Regions Bank has a proud legacy of service to Northeast Alabama, and Corey McWhorter’s local experience and community commitment make him the ideal leader to guide the collaboration of our teams while delivering financial services that are customized to meet the needs of the people and businesses we serve,” said John Turner, President and CEO of Regions Financial Corp. “Corey’s success goes hand-in-hand with our vision for deepening client relationships and reaching new clients through our unique blend of personal service, financial insights, technology solutions, and more. We appreciate Linda Jenkins’ continued service to Regions, and we are excited for Corey to carry on the great work Linda championed across East Alabama.”

As Anniston market executive, McWhorter will work with leaders from across Regions’ business groups to help their teams deliver Regions360, the bank’s comprehensive approach to meeting customers’ needs. Through Regions360, bankers get to know the unique needs of clients and collaborate with colleagues in Consumer Banking, Commercial Banking, Mortgage Banking, Wealth Management, and other business groups to develop holistic financial solutions.

McWhorter will also work with colleagues and community members to identify opportunities for the bank to advance its community engagement in the area. Regions’ key priorities for community engagement include creating greater financial wellness, supporting education and workforce readiness, and helping foster continued economic and community development.

“Regions Bank has made significant investments in its capabilities, resources, and talent as we help clients and communities reach their financial goals,” McWhorter said. “The company’s values and culture encourage our team to collaborate and innovate while always keeping the needs of our customers first. Our clients in Anniston are making important investments in the area’s growth, so I’m pleased to work alongside my colleagues to support them every step of the way. I couldn’t be more honored to serve my hometown.”

McWhorter graduated from Anniston High School and attended Jacksonville State University, where he majored in Finance. A second-generation banker, McWhorter’s banking career began at AmSouth Bank.

McWhorter has a long history of state and community involvement including serving on the Finance Technical Advisory Committee for the broader Alabama Committee on Credentialing and Career Pathways. In addition, McWhorter has provided board service to United Way of East Central Alabama, the Oxford Main Street Program, Empty Stocking, Inc., Family Links, the Young Leaders Society, Oxford Kiwanis, and Friends of the Anniston Library. He is a graduate of Leadership Calhoun County.

McWhorter is the 2022 chair-elect of the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce and will serve as chair in 2023. Upon his leadership role at Regions expanding to include Anniston, McWhorter reflected on the impact Linda Jenkins has had on Regions and its local customer base.

“We are grateful for the legacy of service and leadership provided by Linda Jenkins during her many years with Regions,” McWhorter said. “All of our local teams – and our customers – will continue to benefit from the dedication to superior service that Linda inspired among all of us. She will be a valuable member of our local advisory board, and we sincerly apreciate her willingness to serve in retirement.”
