HOOVER, Ala. – Nov. 9, 2018 – When they were called to serve, they didn’t waiver. They fulfilled the mission.
Not all returned. And some who did came home with serious injuries. Now, each day, these veterans work to overcome obstacles and move forward despite their disabilities.
On Friday, associates from several Regions Bank corporate facilities in metro Birmingham showed their appreciation by presenting a donation of $9,500 in support of Lima Foxtrot programs for injured veterans at Lakeshore Foundation.
This is the sixth year Regions associates have participated in this fundraiser for Lakeshore. The way it works is associates buy custom-designed Lima Foxtrot T-shirts and then wear them to work ahead of Veterans Day. It’s a show of solidarity – and one that raises money to fuel vital services with proceeds going to Lakeshore.
Thousands of injured military members have benefitted from various Lakeshore Foundation services over time. And there are many more who will need Lakeshore in the weeks, months and years to come.
“We are very thankful for the support from Regions associates, which enables us to serve and support our injured service members and their families,” said Jeff Underwood, President of Lakeshore Foundation. “Lakeshore has been helping veterans for over 30 years, and since we expanded our services to injured military in 2006 with the creation of the Lima Foxtrot program, more than 2,600 participants and their family members across the country have benefitted from our sports and recreation camps. Regions has supported us since day one, making it possible to provide our programs at no cost to injured service members.”

The idea for the T-shirt fundraiser came about in 2013. Associates in Regions’ Enterprise Operations department wanted to find a unique way to honor veterans. After learning about Lima Foxtrot, they developed the T-shirt program to not only support veterans symbolically by wearing the shirts – but also financially by sending all proceeds from T-shirt sales to Lakeshore.
“The people who are wearing these shirts today come from different departments across the bank,” said Deno Posey, head of Deposit Operations for Regions and one of the organizers of the fundraiser. “Some are entry-level associates who started working here recently. Others are leaders from management who’ve been here for years. We also come from all walks of life. One thing we have in common is that we are grateful – profoundly grateful – for the service and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans. This is not the only way we show our appreciation. But it’s a very meaningful way because it allows us to reflect our pride – while also supporting life-changing services that are provided by Lakeshore Foundation every day.”
Including Friday’s donation, Regions associates have now raised more than $67,000 through fundraisers for Lakeshore since 2013.
Company-wide, Regions is committed to supporting the men and women of the U.S. military and their families. The company was recognized in 2017 as a Veteran Friendly Employer by the Birmingham Business Journal. Regions also takes steps to ensure associates who are also service members are supported professionally while they are deployed and when they return.
This November, Regions is also administering a grant award program called What a Difference a Day Makes, which highlights nonprofits across the Southeast and Midwest that provide essential programs for service members and veterans. The program is providing financial and volunteer support for participating nonprofits based on online voting from the public through Regions’ news website, regions.doingmoretoday.com.
Further, Regions provides specialized financial services for military families, and Regions has an active Military Recruiting Program offering career opportunities for veterans and military members seeking employment in the financial services industry.
