Mother's Day Ecards

It started just after the Civil War, in 1868, as “Mother’s Friendship Day.”

Today, Mother’s Day is an annual opportunity to honor mothers and motherhood.

Looking for an opportunity to pay tribute to her mother, Ann Jarvis organized the first celebration, which has evolved in the century-and-a-half since then.

Mother’s Day now includes cards and gifts, church services and family dinners, and has been an established Sunday ceremony since 1905.
