Within the winners of the annual Regions Riding Forward® Scholarship Contest, you’ll find inspiration and some of the best and brightest young minds. And for 2023, Regions is pleased to announce the winners for this year’s contest.
Now in its 12th year, the Regions Riding Forward® Scholarship Contest honors Black History Month by encouraging young people to share the stories of Black Americans who inspire them.
The contest features both a video essay category and traditional written essay. High school and college winners were selected in each of the two entry categories. Winning high school seniors each received $2,500, and winning college students each received $1,750.
In all, 48 scholarships were awarded from more than 3,200 completed applications.
“Each year we look forward to receiving these essays from students and learning how Black Americans have shaped their stories,” said Abbas Merchant, head of Corporate Marketing for Regions Bank. “These scholarships are an important way we invest in the future while honoring Black History Month.”

The Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Contest has awarded over $1.4 million in educational assistance to more than 400 students over the past 12 years.
