The Regions Tradition has a history that extends back some 30+ years. The tournament and its beginnings wind back to the former Bruno’s Supermarkets, its related grocery stores, and the family that ran the company.
When the first Bruno Memorial Classic happened in 1992, volunteers came out in the hundreds to help make the event a success.
Today, many of those same volunteers are still active and work to make the event not only a source of civic and local pride – and the largest sporting event of the year in the area – but also one of the premier events on the PGA TOUR Champions.
In 2025, more than 800 people volunteered for roles like standard bearer (the person who carries the names of the players at each hole), marshal (overseeing play at each hole), and many more things with less official sounding titles (think directing people to locations, clean up, shuttling people around the course).
Now, add to that dozens of volunteers who work for Regions – helping in the bank’s hospitality areas, working at the mobile branch, etc. – and similar volunteers and workers at other tents and locations across the tournament.
It adds up to over 1,000 people giving their time and passion to a cause that annually:
- Raises more than a million dollars for charities
- Creates more than $25 million in economic impact
- Employs hundreds of people before, during and after the tournament

Many of the people who volunteer at the Regions Tradition have done so for all of them; 15 individuals have been volunteers and seen every winner of the tournament, beginning with George Archer in 1992 to Angel Cabrera’s most recent victory in 2025.
In 2025, volunteers for the tournament came from across 16 different states to the beautiful rolling hills of Greystone Golf and Country Club, the farthest being from Wisconsin.
Thanks to all the volunteers who help make the Regions Tradition so much more than a golf tournament!
