Regions Introduces Regions Tap to Bank℠ ATMs

The Regions Tap to Bank ATM feature enhances speed and security.

By Wayne Thompson | January 31, 2024

Regions Bank customers in Birmingham, Memphis and Nashville can now tap their cards at the ATM to bank instead of inserting them.

With Regions Tap to Bank ATMs, Regions cardholders or those who have debit or credit cards with the Visa® contactless symbol simply tap their cards on the ATM’s contactless symbol, enter their PINs on the machine’s keypad and complete their transactions.

Similar to the tap to pay offering at retail store sales terminals so customers can tap their cards to pay for purchases, the Regions Tap to Bank ATM feature uses wireless Near Field Communications (NFC) technology to communicate from the card’s chip to the ATM machine.

In November, Regions began introducing the Regions Tap to Bank banking option at its 107 ATM machines in greater Birmingham, followed by Memphis and Nashville in January. The bank plans to expand the feature to all machines across its 16-state footprint by the end of first quarter 2024.

We know that ATMs are an important way customers bank when, where and how they want, so we are pleased to now offer this feature.
Michael Theodoras, Regions’ branch and ATM delivery manager

“Through Regions Tap to Bank banking, we’re making ATM use faster and more convenient while enhancing security by reducing the risk of fraud from skimming devices.”

Theodoras said the bank also expects Regions Tap to Bank ATM banking to result in fewer card captures which happen when customers accidentally leave their cards in the ATM as well as less downtime for card reader repairs – one of the most common ATM hardware issues.
