Regions Foundation Announces Grant for Conexión Américas to Support COVID-19 Response

Contribution to Nashville-based organization is among the latest Regions Foundation grants to help support small businesses and communities.

By Kim Borges | April 30, 2020

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – April 30, 2020 – The Regions Foundation, an Alabama-based nonprofit initiative of Regions Bank that supports community investments, on Thursday announced a $100,000 grant for Conexión Américas as the organization works to help small businesses impacted by the coronavirus.

Based in Nashville, Conexión Américas builds a welcoming community and creates opportunities where Latino families can belong, contribute, and succeed. As the largest Latino-serving organization in Tennessee, Conexión Américas serves more than 9,000 individuals and their families across the Volunteer State each year. Conexión Américas is currently working to support many people whose incomes have been impacted by COVID-19 and is also sharing important information related to COVID-19 throughout the Hispanic community.

“Our work with the Regions Foundation is already allowing us to support small-business owners and help entrepreneurs navigate the intricate economic and operational challenges they face as a result of COVID-19,” said Juliana Ospina Cano, Executive Director of Conexión Américas. “The impact of this investment and support will carry way beyond the current immediate emergency. This includes access to technical assistance, a community of peers, and support from business experts in these very difficult times. This investment demonstrates Regions’ commitment to our larger economy and to small-business owners who make our city powerful and vibrant. We are thankful for their support and look forward to a brighter future together.”

Lee Blank, Nashville Market Executive for Regions Bank, added, “The work that Conexión Américas is doing to help support people and small businesses in 36 counties is especially important during this extremely difficult time. Our Regions Bank team has been a longtime community partner of Mesa Komal, which is Conexión Américas’ culinary incubator. Through this gift from the Regions Foundation, we can elevate that support by helping Conexión Américas as it responds to the current crisis.”

The grants announced by the Regions Foundation on Thursday are in addition to grants announced on April 24 for several Community Development Financial Institutions. The Regions Foundation continues to identify organizations for financial support, and more grants will be issued in the coming weeks. The Regions Foundation also announced recently that it will match donations by Regions Bank associates to United Way organizations and Community Foundations responding to COVID-19 needs.

Also, Regions Bank has issued financial support to a variety of additional nonprofits in various communities, and the bank recently donated a series of advertisements to food banks as well. Through that donation, advertisements originally purchased by Regions to promote bank services were instead given to food banks to encourage viewers and readers to financially support food bank services during the crisis.

Separately, Regions Bank continues to offer a series of options for customers suffering financial impacts from COVID-19. Additional information on Regions Bank resources can be found at www.regions.com/coronavirus.
