Regions’ commitment to the environment is not just a topic we talk about on Earth Day. It’s a fundamental part of our mission to make life better for our customers, associates and communities – and our purpose to create shared value. Protecting the environment is also a key component of our strategy.
But we do talk about it on Earth Day, and in fact, the environment is a focus for the entire “Earth Week.” This year, to help raise awareness of the company’s ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) efforts and remind associates of many environmentally focused programs and initiatives, Regions is launching a video campaign – 90 Seconds on Planet Earth. The program features five company executives discussing various efforts in place to protect our planet.
The first segment features head of Corporate Real Estate and Procurement Brett Couch, who explains “How Regions is Going Green(er).” Brett reports on the progress toward energy-reduction targets and gives a call to action for associates to help us achieve those goals.

In Tuesday’s video, Ronnie Smith, head of Corporate Banking, describes how “Sustainability Efforts Create Shared Value.” Our environmental focus provides new opportunities to serve our clients and the company in innovative ways. And, Ronnie adds, “It’s the right thing to do.”

ESG is a current top-of-mind issue for companies, governments and individual stakeholders. Over the last few years Regions has developed an ESG program that stands out among our peers. In her 90 Seconds on Planet Earth segment, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary Tara Plimpton talks about the importance of that program and the ways that Regions communicates our ESG initiatives to the community and marketplace.

In her video segment, which appears on the actual Earth Day, head of Strategy and Client Experience Kate Danella outlines some recent sustainability successes. She also urges associates to practice good eco habits at home and at work, especially when our remote associates are back in the office more consistently. “We’re going to make life better as we focus more and more on Planet Earth and environmentally sensitive practices,” she says. “And I look forward to doing that together as a team.”
Along with Danella’s “How You Can Help Execute Our Environmental Strategy” message, another informational video launches on Earth Day to promote the work of the Natural Resources and Real Estate Group in the Wealth Management division. This group manages natural resource properties held in trusts, estates and agency accounts, including one million acres of timberland across the South, Midwest and Texas. This industry-leading effort demonstrates Regions’ commitment to sustainability and forestry best practices.

The final 90 Seconds on Planet Earth video provides important information about how the company is managing the risks associated with climate change and other ESG issues and opportunities. Chief Risk Officer Matt Lusco describes how the recently formed Environmental and Social Risk Management program, through partnership and collaboration across the company, is managing these risks and helping to ensure we meet our strategic goals.

A theme emerges among these Earth Week messages: The importance of awareness and engagement – for our associates, customers, shareholders and communities. We want to make sure all our stakeholders understand and share the bank’s commitment to protecting our planet. As head of Corporate Real Estate and Procurement Brett Couch says, “At a macro level, our planet is our most important community.”
