Regions Announces Leadership Changes in Finance Department

Duane Smith to Retire; Faye Cohen Joins Regions as Head of Corporate Tax.

By Candace Higginbotham | August 24, 2021

After 12 years at Regions and a 36-year career in corporate tax, Duane Smith, head of Corporate Tax, has announced his retirement. Faye Cohen will join Regions on August 30 to fill this important leadership role.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with Duane over the years,” says Chief Financial Officer David Turner. “I appreciate his leadership and expert guidance in this critical area for our company, and I wish him the best in this well-deserved and exciting time.”

Smith will assist with the transition and work closely with Cohen over the next few months as the Corporate Tax team closes out the year.

Cohen comes to Regions from Global Payments Inc., where she served as Vice President, Senior Director of Corporate Domestic and International Income Tax. Prior to that, she spent 19 years at Truist/SunTrust as a Senior Director of Corporate Tax and five years in Arthur Andersen LLP’s financial services tax practice. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Rochester and a Master of Accounting (Tax Concentration) from the University of Florida.

“I’m excited to have a leader with Faye’s depth of experience joining the Regions team and I look forward to working closely with her,” Turner says.

Cohen, her husband, Paul, and two of their three sons, Justin and Caleb, live in Marietta, Georgia. Oldest son Josh is beginning his sophomore year at the University of Georgia. Cohen is actively involved in the United Way, March of Dimes, and various school and synagogue committees. Cohen and her family will remain based in Marietta.

“I’m really looking forward to joining the Regions team,” Cohen says. “Having worked in financial services in the Atlanta area for the last 25 years, I’m very familiar with Regions’ reputation as a customer- and community-focused organization, as well as having a rich workplace culture. I’m happy to be a part of it.”
