PRIDE in Progress: Regions Bank Announces Additional Support for Montrose Center, Greater Houston LGBT Chamber

Contributions are part of Regions’ ongoing commitment to fostering greater diversity, equity and inclusion.

By Jeremy King | June 10, 2021

HOUSTON, Texas – June 10, 2021 – Regions Bank on Thursday announced the latest in a series of steps to advance LGBTQ+ inclusion in Houston and Southeast Texas. Through a combination of impactful contributions to community organizations, as well as the bank’s ongoing focus on advancing diversity, equity and inclusion, Regions is working to create a more welcoming society where all people have access to opportunities to succeed and prosper.

The latest contribution is a $15,000 grant from the bank to the Montrose Center, whose mission is to empower members of the LGBTQ+ community and their families to live healthy, fulfilling lives. The Montrose Center established an integrated care model to address health disparities that have historically affected LGBTQ+ individuals. Through a team of clinicians, educators, therapists, support staff and volunteers, the Montrose Center delivers wellness programs, community outreach, social and recreational activities, and more for people representing all generations – from youth to seniors.

One of the most important ways we can make a difference for others is by ensuring more people have access to essential programs and services.

Regions’ donation will advance workforce development initiatives assisting low- and moderate-income people throughout Harris County impacted by COVID-19. Specifically, the gift will support transportation, housing and rehousing, job training and education, child care services and substance abuse programs – areas representing the largest gaps in recovery due to the pandemic.

“Through the Montrose Center, members of the LGBTQ+ community not only have access to a network of services, they have access to a team of allies and advocates who care about their wellbeing and offer incredible support,” said John Stacy, Houston market executive for Regions Bank. “The Montrose Center is creating greater equity and opportunities for people across Southeast Texas, and Regions Bank is proud to serve as a community partner. One of the most important ways we can make a difference for others is by ensuring more people have access to essential programs and services. Our latest contribution will help provide those necessities as we build on our support for the Montrose Center.”

In addition, Regions Bank is renewing its annual commitment to the Greater Houston LGBT Chamber of Commerce, which works to accelerate economic opportunities through a network of business allies and strategic programs. The Chamber was among dozens of participants in a Harvard-level, tuition-free business training opportunity recently brought to Houston by Regions Bank. Through Regions’ community partnership with the Chamber, more businesses have greater access to opportunities to succeed.

While June is recognized worldwide as Pride Month, Regions’ commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusivity is year-round. Additional details can be found at this link.

This commitment complements Regions’ overall community engagement strategy, which prioritizes community investments, volunteer service, and additional forms of support for a wide network of organizations that foster opportunities for more people to succeed. Key focus areas include supporting financial wellness, economic and community development, and education and workforce readiness.

“Creating more inclusive prosperity is at the heart of who we are as a company, and that includes reaching members of the LGBTQ+ community with important services, financial insights and community support, all designed to help fulfill our mission to make life better for the people and places we serve,” said Brett Shaffer, corporate community relations manager for Regions Bank. “Our community partnerships in Houston and beyond reflect our commitment to serving as a valued financial services provider for people from all backgrounds. We look forward to building on our progress and community partnerships in the years to come.”
