Mississippi-Minded. Future-Focused. Regions Bank Announces John Howie as Metro Jackson Market Executive

Experienced banking leader combines a passion for Mississippi with a deep understanding of local clients’ needs.

By Nestor Mato | June 10, 2024

JACKSON, Miss. – June 10, 2024 – Regions Bank on Monday announced veteran Mississippi banking leader John Howie has joined the company as Metro Jackson Market Executive as well as Senior Vice President and Commercial Banking Leader for Mississippi.

Howie has 36 years of banking experience in Mississippi and across the Southeast.

He began his career at First Tennessee Bank in 1988 and served in commercial lending and credit analyst roles. In 1995, he moved to Jackson, managing commercial and corporate banking for Trustmark Bank in Mississippi and across a multi-state footprint from Houston, Texas, to Mobile, Alabama. He most recently served as a Chief Commercial Banking Officer for First Commercial Bank in Jackson.

“John Howie knows what people and businesses value most when it comes to their banking relationship,” said John Turner, Chairman, President and CEO of Regions Financial Corp. “He knows customer experience and convenience are crucial, but he also knows the value of building a deep understanding of each client’s unique needs. He understands the importance of helping people build financial confidence through the advice and guidance of local bankers who care. John will also drive our dedication to community engagement in ways that make a measurable difference for people and organizations that call Mississippi home.”

As Metro Jackson Market Executive, Howie will lead the bank’s comprehensive Regions360 approach to identifying and meeting customers’ unique banking needs. He will partner with Regions colleagues in Consumer Banking, Commercial Banking, Mortgage Banking, Wealth Management, and other groups to deliver holistic financial solutions for clients.

“It is an honor for me to join Regions, which stands out as a banking leader in Jackson and across the state,” Howie said. “Regions Bank has made several investments in Mississippi that are designed to help our neighbors and local businesses build on their success and grow their finances with services that make banking simpler. As a Jackson resident, I have seen it, and now I am proud to be part of it.”

Howie will report to Christian White, Commercial Banking District Director for the Alabama, Mississippi and Florida Panhandle markets.

“We were very thoughtful about who came into this role. John and his wife are both from Mississippi, and it would be hard to find a banker who has more connectivity and experience in this market,” White said. “He’s the ideal person to lead our efforts in Commercial Banking while driving collaboration between our Commercial bankers and our Consumer Banking and Wealth Management divisions.”

A native of Yazoo City, Howie earned his BBA from the University of Mississippi. Howie currently serves as Chairman of the American Heart Association of Mississippi Board of Directors.

In his work with Regions, Howie will also oversee the bank’s community engagement strategy for Metro Jackson, including continued work with Canopy Children’s Solutions, Habitat for Humanity® Mississippi Capital Area, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi.

Howie succeeds Robert Leard as Regions’ Metro Jackson Market Executive following Leard’s recent retirement.

“We have a phenomenal foundation for success in the years to come,” Howie concluded. “From our local team to our digital solutions, we’re providing the tools and resources of a larger bank with the experience and dedication of financial professionals who are dedicated to this area.”
