Meet Sumitha Natarajan – Data Products Group Manager

A leap of faith led Sumitha Natarajan to a career harnessing the power of advanced analytics.

By Kenzie Sprague | July 24, 2025

Whether it’s streamlining decision-making or enabling strategic growth, Sumitha Natarajan’s team plays a key role in helping the organization harness the power of advanced analytics.

As Data Products group manager within the Technology, Operations Digital and Data organization at Regions, Sumitha leads a dynamic, high-performing team of data product partners, scrum masters and analysts. Her team acts as a vital bridge between Data and Analytics and various lines of business, driving end-to-end execution of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning-powered data products and platforms.

The team’s mission is simple – create a suite of analytical data products that generate actionable insights and recommendations.

Their work exemplifies collaboration, innovation and execution – advancing Regions’ vision through the smart and ethical use of data and emerging technologies.

But Sumitha’s journey to leadership didn’t start out so clear-cut. It started with a leap of faith.

Against All Odds & Across Industries

Sumitha earned a master’s degree in computer science and management in India before accepting a job in software development in the U.S., making her dreams a reality.

“It was difficult, but my parents stood by me,” she reflects. “I had no idea what to expect. It was a huge risk, but I moved forward with a leap of faith.”

Sumitha’s early career in the U.S. included consulting roles for many years across several industries, including telecommunications, oil and gas, and beverage manufacturing.

After being offered a senior leadership role at an oil refining group – a role that would require relocation –  Sumitha chose to grow her family.

She eventually moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, where she entered the financial industry. Over 17 years, Sumitha held numerous roles at a bank in Charlotte within the CFO group leading transformations, change, operations and data management.

People, Process, Purpose

In 2022, Sumitha joined Regions. Today, she’s not just leading data product execution – she’s helping shape a culture of data-driven decision-making across our organization.

“I love seeing how executing every piece of the puzzle contributes to the big picture,” she says. “My goal has always been to align people, process and purpose to solve simple and complex problems and turning them into solutions that work at scale.”

Leadership Philosophy

Throughout her career, Sumitha has been guided by her core values: authenticity, humility, honesty, empathy, a “don’t give up attitude” and a deep commitment to people.

“You can be humble,” she says, “but you must also advocate for yourself.”

She’s proud of rising through the ranks while balancing family, cultural transitions and moments of self-doubt, building an incredible amount of resilience through every challenge and opportunity.

Life Beyond Work

When she’s not working, Sumitha finds peace in music, family, spiritual reading and meditation.

She also enjoys cooking with her family, taking spontaneous weekend trips to the beach or mountains near Charlotte and mentoring young professionals.

“I believe those of us who are blessed have a moral responsibility to give back,” she says. “That’s what brings meaning to the journey.”
