What
The BCEx Advocates of the Year are individuals who demonstrate unwavering dedication and support for the Broward College Entrepreneurship Experience (BCEx) Program, a free business accelerator program for Broward County residents. These awards recognize advocates’ outstanding commitment to supporting small business owners, fostering entrepreneurship, facilitating partnerships and promoting innovation – ultimately contributing to the success and growth of BCEx and its mission to empower students and the community.
Pupo’s involvement with BCEx includes delivering Regions Next Step® financial wellness program and small business education through seminars and sharing key insights and guidance around business banking and lending, business planning and organization, and leadership for every phase of the business life cycle. Pupo was honored during the BCEx Showcase event Nov. 30.
Why
Pupo, a 25-year banking professional who joined Regions in 2018, now leads the East Commercial Boulevard branch in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She says she’s never been happier with her career because of the way her role empowers her to get involved in the community and determine the best way to use her talents.
When her daughter started classes at Broward College as a dual enrollment student, Pupo decided delivering financial education there was her next goal. After developing relationships with college leaders and meeting other Regions associates with their own Broward College connections, she formed a group whose support includes the BCEx program.
“Yasmin prioritizes building strong relationships, demonstrates integrity and is always going the extra mile for her team, her customers and her community,” said Julio Llanes, Consumer Banking Manager for Palm Beach and Northern Broward. “Her commitment to service and her support for small businesses are a great reflection of values true to Regions. It’s because of associates like Yasmin that we are able to show up proudly as a bank that truly cares about the people and communities we serve.”
In Her Own Words
“I continue to be involved in the community because I love where I live and I want to see my community unified. In a world full of distractions and economic hardships, the one thing you can do is show up – show up and help. When I sit down with my small business clients, many times I see they maybe didn’t get a little help – or the knowledge they needed – sooner. A lot of times it’s small business owners that aren’t saving for retirement. Or it could be those who have built businesses but don’t have safeguards in place to protect their businesses. I’m glad to be in a position to give them the advice and guidance they need for success and to close those gaps, and to do this not just in my branch but on a much larger scale in the community. This is my way of showing up and giving back.”
