Houston Banking Veteran Brings Significant Experience to Regions

Larry Ellis joins Regions’ Middle Market Banking team, strengthening services for the area’s thriving business community.

By Kim Borges | September 17, 2019

HOUSTON, Texas – Sept. 17, 2019 – Regions Bank on Tuesday announced longtime Houston banking professional Larry Ellis is joining the company and will partner with Regions bankers providing customized financial services for businesses in Houston and surrounding areas.

Specifically, Ellis will focus on serving companies occupying the middle market space – larger than small businesses, but smaller than mega corporations. The middle market space includes companies that account for the middle third of the U.S. economy’s revenue.

Regions already has some of the best bankers in Texas; now, with Larry Ellis, our team is growing even stronger.

“Larry Ellis is a highly experienced and highly regarded banking leader who understands the needs and opportunities of growing businesses and valued employers across Houston and Southeast Texas,” said Mark Jacobs, Houston Market Executive for Regions and head of Regions’ Houston Commercial Banking group. “Adding Larry’s diverse experience, his proven track record and his longtime commitment to serving our community is a real win for our clients and for our team. Regions already has some of the best bankers in Texas; now, with Larry Ellis, our team is growing even stronger.”

An industry veteran who specializes in establishing and building long-term financial relationships, Ellis joins a team that is focused on helping clients reach their goals through Regions360, a comprehensive approach to service. As part of Regions360, the company’s bankers take the time to learn the unique goals of each client and collaborate with colleagues from across Regions’ various banking departments to develop holistic, custom-tailored solutions for both short-term and long-term needs.

“My role at Regions offers me an opportunity to return to my roots of working directly with business clients to help them grow from where they are today to where they see themselves in the future,” said Ellis. “Through the bank’s unique Regions360 approach, I can enlist the expertise and support of my partners across multiple business groups to help clients thrive.”

Ellis most recently served as managing director of Corporate Banking with KeyBanc Capital Markets, a division of Key Bank, for five years. Previously, he managed the Middle Market Banking group at BBVA Compass. Further, he led the transition of the former La Salle Bank during its acquisition by Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Houston Corporate Lending office.

Ellis’s experience also includes roles at Bank of Texas, Fleet Capital and First City National Bank, which later merged into JP Morgan Chase.

His extensive community involvement includes serving as a current board member and immediate past president of Houston Achievement Place. He is board secretary for the Escape Family Resource Center. Ellis also serves on the boards of the Turnaround Management Association Houston Chapter and Commercial Finance Association of Houston.

He is an active member of the National Association of Corporate Directors Texas TriCities Chapter and the Association for Corporate Growth’s Houston Chapter. Ellis is a former YMCA of Greater Houston board member.

“Regions makes it clear that the company is focused not only on providing financial services, but also delivering community engagement in a way that makes a meaningful difference in the lives of others,” Ellis said. “That’s one of several factors that attracted me to Regions. We are committed to helping clients achieve their financial goals while also serving Houston in a way that builds an even stronger community.”

Ellis earned a Master of Business Admininstration from Texas Christian University. He obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at Arlington.
