“For as long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to work in finance,” said Jack Hauck, Wealth Management Development Program associate in Institutional Services. Coming from a family of accountants and corporate bankers, he originally thought he would pursue a career in the former.
While in high school in his home state of Ohio, Hauck and his best friend played with lots of small business ideas to raise money over the summers. The ideas ranged from reselling shoes to a burger business out of Hauck’s backyard. They eventually established a landscaping company which they scaled to serve more than 80 clients and brought in nearly $100,000 in revenue.
“It was hard work and long hours – sometimes manually pushing a small mower across a giant field when people didn’t show up to work,” shared Hauck. “During my time with that company I oversaw the financial activity, everything from accounts receivable to budgeting. That experience cemented my interest in finance.”
Hauck’s friend still runs the landscape company and credits Hauck with helping him build a strong financial foundation for his success.
From Aspiration to Internship
“I had just finished my junior year at the University of Alabama where I had taken a course where a representative at the local Regions branch came to our class to speak on the importance of building credit and using a credit card responsibly,” recalled Hauck. “When it came time to search for internships, Regions was at the top of my list.” Hauck notes the local presence paired with a clear investment in student financial education and success as among the factors leading him to pursue an internship at Regions.
“The intern experience for me was – above all else – a learning experience,” shared Hauck. “I came into the internship knowing almost nothing about wealth management – much less institutional wealth management, an area I was aligned with during my program.”
Like all interns, Hauck’s first responsibility was to learn about the business. A role he relished.
My internship was extremely rewarding, with my hard work ethic paying off as I got to participate in more complex projects.

“My internship was extremely rewarding, with my hard work ethic paying off as I got to participate in more complex projects,” said Hauck. He eventually built a tool that the team leverages to help assess account benchmarking. “I loved being able to showcase my Excel skills and build tools that supported the work our team does for our clients rather than just being relegated to busy work.”
Hauck cites the people as the best part of his internship program.
“My current manager Ryan (Sladek) and my ‘honorary manager’ Shelley Fisher were my internship managers, and it is amazing to be back with them full-time. Everyone on my floor in the Tampa office made me feel welcome and always loved to strike conversation as they passed my desk.”
Sladek, head of Institutional Sales at Regions, was impressed with Hauck from the very beginning.
From Internship to Budding Career
“From day one at Regions, Jack stood out for his strong analytical thinking, technical proficiency, and remarkable ability to absorb new information quickly,” noted Sladek. “He approaches every assignment with precision and a problem-solving mindset, consistently delivering work that elevates our team. His transition from intern to fulltime was a natural next step because of the value he brings to our organization.”
Following his internship, Hauck returned to Tuscaloosa for his senior year at the University of Alabama and the hope of a full-time job at Regions upon graduation. He didn’t have to wait long. He had impressed the team so much during his internship he was offered a full-time role during the first semester of his senior year, which had him relocating to the Sunshine State where he would become permanent part of the Institutional team in Tampa.
“Given the incredible internship experience, it was a no-brainer to come back full time when the offer was extended to me,” said Hauck. “I knew that the work I was doing was valuable, and now that I’m here full time I’ve not only been able to expand on some of my internship work but also get involved in even more projects that I never even knew about during my internship.”
Hauck also credits his internship with helping hone his time management skills, his networking and conversational skills, while exposing him to the world of institutional wealth management that he may not have known about otherwise.
The Internship Difference
For students currently in college, Hauck noted that a key to his success was getting a foot in the door, then building a strong reputation of dependability and a hunger to learn the ins and outs of the business while contributing to the team’s success.
“I applied to the wealth management internship knowing almost nothing, but by the end of the program, I was building tools that we use today,” said Hauck. “I made every effort during my internship to deliver on anything I was asked, no matter how simple or complex. If I didn’t know how to do something, I’d ask for help instead of giving up.”
This program gives us the opportunity to identify, mentor, and develop the next generation of Wealth Management professionals who will continue to move Regions Wealth Management forward.

This tenacity and dependability set Hauck up for opportunities he enjoys today as a full-time associate, getting involved in projects across the Institutional Services team.
“It’s okay to not know what you want to do in finance,” noted Hauck. “I thought for the longest time I’d be an accountant like the rest of my family. It wasn’t until after my internship and experiencing the culture here that I knew my place was in institutional wealth with Regions.”
Sladek noted that it is Regions internship program that is one of the strongest talent pipelines.
“This program gives us the opportunity to identify, mentor, and develop the next generation of Wealth Management professionals who will continue to move Regions Wealth Management forward.”
