Arthur DuCote Retiring from Regions Bank; Robert Birmingham to Serve as Montgomery Market Executive

Birmingham to build on Regions’ foundation of superior service and community commitment.

By Jennifer Elmore | December 9, 2020

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Dec. 9, 2020 – Regions Bank on Wednesday announced Arthur DuCote, market executive for the bank in Montgomery and the River Region, will retire at the end of the year. Robert Birmingham, executive vice president and area manager for Regions Private Wealth Management, will succeed DuCote as market executive.

DuCote has served Regions and its predecessor banks for 28 years. He has held key leadership roles in Montgomery as well as in Jackson, Mississippi, and Fort Myers, Florida.
Under his leadership, the company has delivered a wide range of customized financial services for individual customers, small businesses and major employers. DuCote has also worked with colleagues to strengthen the bank’s community engagement through involvement with several Montgomery-area nonprofits.

I am thankful to Regions associates and community leaders who have worked with me to make Montgomery better today than it was yesterday.

Birmingham is a familiar face to Regions clients, having served the bank for 33 years. He currently leads a team of advisors who serve Regions’ investment clients through tailored financial advice and market insights.

“Arthur DuCote has been instrumental not only in leading Regions’ teams but also in addressing key challenges affecting Montgomery while bringing solutions to the table that will help the River Region prosper in the years to come,” said Regions President and CEO John Turner. “We are thankful for Arthur’s dedicated leadership and community involvement, and I know Robert Birmingham will build on Arthur’s legacy of superior service. Our clients have depended on Robert and his insights for many years, and his experience will help position Regions for continued success in Alabama’s capital city and surrounding communities.”

As market executive, Birmingham will work with leaders from across Regions’ business groups to carry out Regions360, the bank’s comprehensive approach to meeting customers’ needs.

Through Regions360, the company’s bankers learn the unique goals of clients and collaborate with colleagues from Regions’ various departments – including Commercial Banking, Consumer Banking and Private Wealth Management – to develop holistic solutions.

In addition, Birmingham will work with colleagues and community members to identify further opportunities for the bank to make a meaningful difference through volunteer service, nonprofit support, delivering financial education and more. Birmingham will continuing serving as Private Wealth Management area manager leading Wealth and Trust teams delivering financial guidance, market insights and more.

Birmingham joined Regions in 1987. He is a graduate of Huntingdon College, the Jones School of Law at Faulkner University and Southern Trust School. Birmingham is a member of the National Association of Accredited Estate Planners, the Montgomery Estate Planning Council and the Alabama Bankers Association, where he served as past president. He is also a member of the Alabama Bar Association.

Committed to community volunteerism, Birmingham serves on the board of directors for Mercy House and the alumni board for Huntingdon College. He is a trustee of the Camp Seale Harris Trust that supports children with juvenile diabetes. In addition, Birmingham serves as a board member and Finance Committee member for River Region United Way.

“Regions Bank has a strong history of serving customers, businesses and nonprofits across the area, and it is an honor to lead the collaboration of our local teams,” Birmingham said. “Arthur DuCote has provided a strong foundation of exceptional client support and meaningful community involvement, and he has positioned us well for further growth. More great work lies ahead, and I am honored to begin this new chapter of serving Regions in my hometown.”

DuCote has twice led Regions’ teams in the area. He was named area president for Regions in Montgomery in 2001. He remained in that role for 12 years before being named area president for Regions in Jackson, Mississippi. He returned to Montgomery as market executive in 2018.

A passionate advocate for the River Region, DuCote this year served as chairman of the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce and worked with economic leaders to further strengthen the business climate and local education opportunities. DuCote also serves on the board of directors of the Montgomery Business Committee for the Arts. Previously, he has served the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, the Montgomery YMCA and the Alabama State Banking Board.

“Working in banking and finance and serving communities in Florida, Mississippi and Alabama has been deeply meaningful,” said DuCote. “As I reflect on my time at Regions, I’m grateful for the growth opportunities that allowed me to broaden my ability to provide financial insights while meeting the needs of our customers. As I close this chapter and begin retirement, I am thankful to Regions associates and community leaders who have worked with me to make Montgomery better today than it was yesterday. Robert Birmingham is a friend, and I know he’ll do great work to continue moving Montgomery and surrounding communities forward.”
