A Retirement Dream Hits the Road

A Regions banker helps a couple keep their adventures rolling.

By Wayne Thompson | March 2, 2026

For Linda and Richard Steadman, retirement was never about slowing down but experiencing more in life — more scenery, more places to see that they’d only read about, and more moments with the people they love.

Linda has been with Regions through predecessor banks since she was 16 years old. Richard, a retired Navy serviceman and longtime deputy sheriff from South Florida, met Linda years ago when he visited a federal campground she managed.

They’ve been together nearly 20 years now, blending their two families with 11 children, 10 grandchildren and three great‑grandchildren.

Camping has always been their shared passion from tents to campers and “glamping,” as Linda now calls their trips. The road is part of their life’s rhythm, whether it’s heading up Route 66 from Branson, Missouri, to Las Vegas or heading from their home near Weogufka, Alabama, to see their favorite destination: the Grand Canyon.

They stay in Williams, Arizona, and always take the train to the canyon’s South Rim. It’s an experience they enjoy so much they try to take someone new along with them every time.

Last year, they started dreaming bigger.

They wanted a new motor home and a financial plan that would let them continue exploring without worry. What started as a conversation about an annuity turned into a life‑changing discussion when they visited the Regions branch in Sylacauga.

That’s where they sought out a familiar face: Regions Branch Manager Amy Holcomb.

Uncovering Their Dream With Regions Greenprint

When the Steadmans walked in, they expected help with routine banking but Holcomb gave them much more. As she helped them update their Regions Greenprint® plan, Holcomb said, “I understood the question wasn’t simply, ‘How do we finance an RV?’ but ‘How do we keep living the life we love comfortably, responsibly and fully?’”

The Steadmans and Holcomb explored multiple options together before landing on a home equity loan solution that lowered their monthly costs, simplified their finances and made room for the motor home they had their eyes on: a 2026 Jayco Seneca.

“It was excellent,” Linda said of the experience. “Amy answered every one of our questions. Never rushed us. Never pawned us off on someone else. I can’t say enough good about how she helped us that day.”

Richard agreed: “Every time we go in there, we’re treated so well. Amy has even talked us out of things we didn’t need, and weren’t in our best interest financially.”

The Road Ahead

Today, you’ll find the Steadmans out there somewhere making memories through rainstorms and sunshine, across state lines, around campfires and on highways that seem to stretch for miles and bring surprises around every bend. Their next adventure? Wherever the road leads.

Retirement hasn’t meant slowing down but savoring the time they have together, staying on a budget, and, as Richard puts it, not outliving their money.

Going the Extra Mile for Customers

For Holcomb, this is what banking with Regions and its Greenprint plan process is all about and why the bank and its people continue to receive so many awards and honors.

“I try to make every customer feel special,” she said. “Even on their hardest days, I want them to feel cared for. The Greenprint helps me and my team uncover needs they may not even know to bring up, whether it’s retirement, paying off debt or financing something new.”

The Steadmans came in with a simple banking question but left with an updated plan that supports the life they want to live.

And now, every time they pull into a new campground, explore a new town or watch their grandchildren’s faces light up at a new destination, those moments become part of their journey with Regions too.

After all, Holcomb said, extraordinary experiences don’t happen by chance at Regions. They’re planned with care, with collaboration, with a shared belief that everyone deserves a personalized path to financial confidence from people who care.

Going the extra mile isn’t something special but who we are as Regions Bank and a direct extension of our values.

What an honor it was for me to help them enjoy retirement, make memories and live the life they’ve worked so hard for. That’s the part of my job I love the most.”
