A New Chapter of Service: Regions Brank Opens Modern Downtown Tuscaloosa Branch

Local teams to build on Regions’ legacy of service to West Alabama.

By Jennifer Elmore | April 1, 2021

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – April 1, 2021 – Regions Bank on Thursday formally unveiled the company’s latest investment in its branch network with the opening of a modern location in downtown Tuscaloosa that blends convenient new technology with personalized service from local bankers.

“Regions Bank is committed to Tuscaloosa, and the opening of this state-of-the art branch in the heart of our community represents a new chapter in our bank’s history of serving people and businesses across West Alabama,” said Elizabeth Winter, Tuscaloosa market executive for Regions Bank. “The branch is staffed with knowledgeable bankers who are ready to have deeper conversations with customers while connecting them with financial guidance and resources to help meet their long-term financial goals.”

Regions’ new downtown Tuscaloosa branch is at 800 22nd St., around the corner from the bank’s longtime Tuscaloosa Main facility.

Winter pointed to research showing people and businesses prefer what’s called an “omni-channel” approach to banking. That is, while customers conduct more of their banking transactions through Regions’ upgraded digital services, the branch remains crucial as a source of in-person financial insights related to major transactions and long-term planning, while offering customers local bankers who understand their unique needs.

“This location reflects our commitment to personal service while also bringing new technology options to the area for the first time,” Winter said. “The downtown Tuscaloosa branch is unlike anything people have experienced here before, and we are proud to welcome our longtime customers, and new customers, to this convenient and accessible branch.”

A better customer experience is at the heart of the branch design. For example, customers will no longer have to wait behind a traditional teller line to be called up for service. Instead, customers are greeted personally upon arrival by a banker who can assist with virtually all branch-banking needs, without having to refer the customer to other bankers for certain specialized services. The result is a more consultative approach to banking – and a closer connection between local banking professionals and the clients they serve.

In addition, the branch becomes the latest to offer Regions Video Banking ATM service. Through the Video Banking ATMs in the branch’s drive-through and exterior perimeter, customers can choose standard ATM service – or they can connect with a Regions Video Banker via live, two-way video for personal service during expanded hours.

Regions’ Video Banking ATMs offer live, two-way video service during an expanded set of hours.

Regions Video Bankers are available on weekdays from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. CT. They are also available on Saturdays from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. CT and on Sundays and holidays from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. CT. Video Bankers can help customers with account maintenance, bill payments and additional services.

The Tuscaloosa location also features two Regions DepositSmart ATMs® in the drive-through. Through the DepositSmart machines, Regions customers can withdraw cash or make deposits of cash or checks at any time. The branch also offers self-service safe deposit boxes, allowing biometric (face and finger) access, eliminating the need for a branch associate to open the vault and assist with opening a box.

The branch at 800 22nd Ave. replaces Regions’ longtime downtown facility around the corner on Ninth Street. Regions sold the Ninth Street facility to the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama at a price below market value for the creation of a regional economic, community and workforce development center.

While Regions branches are offering in-person service, customers are encouraged to make an appointment through the appointment-setting tool linked here on regions.com. The bank is currently limiting capacity in its branches and has implemented additional safety practices to help protect the health and well-being of customers and associates during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Downtown Tuscaloosa branch team is ready to provide customized services to help people and businesses reach their financial goals.

The branch’s hours are from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday.

A ribbon cutting with the Chamber is planned for later this spring to celebrate the opening of the branch and the West Alabama Workforce and Community Development Center.

Downtown Tuscaloosa Branch Manager Tammy Lollar said the new branch is changing the way she and her team of associates help customers.

“This modernized location is transformational in how we connect and serve people and businesses,” Lollar said. “It gives us the platform we need to build on our history of serving and supporting Tuscaloosa. We look forward to sharing all the benefits of this new location.”
