If you had to guess the top five things people take pictures of with their mobile phones, what would you guess?
Food?
Family?
Vacation?
All of this is true. Along with – nature!
Sunsets are one of the natural phenomenon’s most photographed due to the beauty they boast through stunning colors sprawled across the skies. And the show put on by sunsets changes daily.
The effort to bottle that natural beauty through photography is annually celebrated through National Capture the Sunset Week during the third week of July. To help recognize this observation, Doing More Today asked Regions Bank associates to share their favorite sunset snapshots. And wow did they deliver!
Photographing sunsets is a true passion of mine, so it was difficult to pick just one. Donna Sue Medina, Regions Next Step Corporate Educator
Regions Next Step Corporate Educator Donna Sue Medina, a resident of Nashville, Tennessee, shared some of her setting sun portraits she’s taken.
“Photographing sunsets is a true passion of mine, so it was difficult to pick just one,” Medina shared.
She ended up sharing her favorite and a bonus image because she couldn’t choose.
“I was traveling in Bayou La Batre, Alabama, and needed to go to a Regions Bank branch, and found myself at the location just before close,” Medina said. “The branch was near the water, so I couldn’t resist taking a drive to catch the sunset.”
She said during her drive to the coastline, she passed the docked shrimping boats all settled on the still waters.
“Along the coastline, I was greeted by miles of massive oak trees. Having grown up on the Gulf Coast, I knew the toll these oak trees had endured with strong hurricane winds and storm surges year after year,” Medina said. “Through nature’s care and hardships, these oaks have outlived generations of people who witnessed these trees growth over the years. These mighty oaks decorated with natural moss created a spectacular sunset experience for this backroad enthusiast.”

She notes that Bayou La Batre was home for the character Bubba in the movie Forrest Gump.
“Compared to sunsets, Forrest said it best, ‘My Momma always said, life is like a box of chocolates. You never know whatcha gonna get.’” Medina recalled.
“Every sunset is different and unique. It’s a daily inspiration and a privilege for me to watch a sunset. It is a special way to end the day with gratitude and quietness and a hope for a new adventure tomorrow.”
Cheers to all of the hope for new adventures that these sunset photos may bring. Enjoy the gallery.
