Regions Chief Governance Officer Named to Alabama’s Legal Elite for 2026.

By Candace Higginbotham | August 24, 2026

Who

Andrew Nix, Executive Vice President, Chief Governance Officer, Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary at Regions

What

Business Alabama magazine, which covers business activity in all sectors of the state’s economy, recently announced its 2026 Legal Elite list. The annual recognition is based on nominations from attorneys across Alabama who identify peers they believe are among the top practitioners in their areas of expertise.

In recognition of his leadership and contributions to the legal profession, Nix was named to the Corporate Counsel list.

Why

For the past five years, Nix has led the Governance and Securities team within Regions’ Legal Department, with responsibility for advising senior executives and the Board of Directors on matters related to corporate governance, securities regulation and public company disclosures. Additionally, Nix’s team oversees Regions’ corporate responsibility initiatives, including the ethics program and the production of the Shared Value Report, the company’s annual report highlighting its governance practices and the many ways Regions creates value for customers, associates, shareholders and communities.

Under Nix’s leadership, the Governance and Securities team has introduced a fully redesigned Proxy Statement, transformed the Shared Value Report into a rebranded publication produced in-house, strengthened shareholder engagement efforts, enhanced governance and compliance readiness processes, and contributed significantly to Board governance initiatives.

In 2024, Nix’s team was nationally recognized as Governance Team of the Year and received Best Shareholder Engagement honors at the Governance Intelligence Corporate Governance Awards. The awards recognize leading individuals and organizations in governance, risk and compliance that demonstrate excellence, integrity and innovation.

At Regions, Nix serves on the Boards of Directors of Regions Foundation and Regions Community Development Corporation and chairs the Legal Department’s Culture and Impact Team. Outside Regions, Nix serves on the Boards of Directors of Leadership Alabama, the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham (2024-2025 President) and Freshwater Land Trust, and is a member of the Alabama State Bar Board of Bar Commissioners and the Monday Morning Quarterback Club. Nix was President of the Birmingham Bar Association in 2020 and is a graduate of the Leadership Birmingham Class of 2020 and the Leadership Alabama Class of 2024.

In His Own Words

“Being named to Alabama’s Legal Elite is a tremendous honor, especially because it comes from fellow members of the legal profession. I’m incredibly proud to represent Regions and to work alongside talented colleagues who are committed to excellence in governance, compliance and corporate responsibility.

Andrew Nix, Executive Vice President, Chief Governance Officer, Deputy General Counsel and Assistant Corporate Secretary at Regions

Over the past several years, our team has worked closely with leaders across the company to enhance governance practices, strengthen shareholder engagement and support our Board and senior management. This recognition reflects the collective effort of many people, and I’m grateful to be part of a team that is dedicated to helping Regions serve all of its stakeholders with integrity and purpose.”
