How Two Banking Leaders Built Their Careers at Regions

Mike Dennis and Tyler Lipe on career paths, skill building, mentors and more.

By Michelle Engelhardt | September 15, 2025

At Regions Bank, career growth isn’t just encouraged. It’s built into the culture. Two recently promoted Consumer Banking Executives, Mike Dennis and Tyler Lipe, share how they’ve grown their careers from entry-level roles to executive leadership, learning important lessons along the way.

With nearly 50 years of combined experience, Dennis and Lipe offer valuable insights for anyone looking to grow professionally, whether in banking or beyond.

Meet the Leaders

  • Mike Dennis was recently named Consumer Banking Executive for North Central Alabama, following his role leading the Midwest region.
  • Tyler Lipe now steps into the Midwest Consumer Banking Executive role, previously serving as Consumer Banking Manager in Hoover, Alabama.

Their promotions reflect Regions’ commitment to building the best team by investing in talent and promoting from within.

Mike Dennis | North Central Alabama Consumer Banking Executive

Career Background

Dennis started his career 28 years ago when he joined a Regions predecessor, AmSouth Bank. “I started in their management training program, focusing on the teller platform for the first two years of my career,” Dennis said. “I then spent a year and five months as a branch manager, followed by five years as a Consumer Banking Manager.”

He went to a peer bank in 2007, where he held leadership roles in consumer banking and wealth management, returning to Regions as a consumer banking manager in 2013. He became the Midwest Consumer Banking Executive for Regions in 2018 and is a 10-time Chairman’s Club Award winner. Chairman’s Club highlights sales roles finishing in the top 10 percent of their peer group.

His New Role and Desired Impact

“Taking over this high-performing team is exciting. I want to support their success and help them continue to excel. Talent management and associate development have been crucial to my success, and I plan to continue that focus on developing associates and helping them achieve their career aspirations.”

In addition to his new professional chapter, there’s a significant personal chapter beginning. “My wife and I are excited about the move to Birmingham and returning to Alabama, where I have spent the majority of my career.”

Advice for Building a Career at Regions

“There are three things to remember: 1) Performance matters, 2) Have complementary skills that would support growth in the new career opportunity and 3) Consistently further your education beyond your current role. I’ve always taken classes and sought opportunities to enhance my skill set.”

Best Advice He’s Received

“My mentor always asked, ‘What are you doing to better yourself? What are you learning?’”

Fun Fact

“My father played for the Montreal Canadiens, the St. Louis Blues, and New York Rangers. I’m a big hockey fan, I grew up a Montreal Canadiens fan, but most recently cheering for the teams in the cities I’ve lived in.”

From 1994 to 1997, Dennis played hockey professionally in the United States, as well as in Cortina D’Ampezzo, Italy. He was elected team captain by his teammates two times stateside and served as a player assistant coach in Italy.

Tyler Lipe

Tyler Lipe | Midwest Consumer Banking Executive

Career Background

Through hard work and dedication, Lipe built his consumer banking career from the ground up. “I started at Regions over 20 years ago as a platform banker, now known as a Relationship Banker II,” Lipe said. “I was then promoted to branch manager in the Midwest District, which is where I’m moving back to, and then promoted to Consumer Banking Manager in southeast Missouri in 2011, before transferring laterally to one of the largest markets in the company, in Hoover, Alabama.”

In addition to being named a Chairman’s Club Award winner 14 times, Lipe has built a strong track record for performance excellence.

Along his path, he’s benefited from opportunities for growth. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without all the great leaders, mentors and coaches I have had along the way. Now, you must be coachable and put plans into practice, but that’s the easy part if you have a company and leadership team that is marching in the same direction you are.”

The valuable experience he’s gained in his career at Regions has allowed him to take on new challenges. “I’ve worked in rural, suburban and metro markets; I have led multiple different teams with varying skill levels and backgrounds; and I have been very proactive in my community outreach. I believe that every person I have worked with at Regions, hundreds directly and indirectly over the last 20 years, has molded and shaped who I am today in addition to my family — which is why we all come to work to give it our best every single day.”

His New Role and Desired Impact

As the Midwest consumer banking executive, Lipe plans to establish strong connections with the team and get familiar with the footprint. “I really look forward to getting to know the team. There are 117 branches, so I have my work cut out for me, but I want to get to know everybody, see the talent they have and help them take it to the next level.”

Lipe is very active in the community, having earned 230 volunteer service hours in 2024. “I’m going to do everything I can to support the outreach in the Midwest, including some events connected to the Indianapolis 500. That’s something else I’m looking forward to.”

People development is at the core of his approach. “My job is to support my new team, mentor them and make sure they get where they want to be. There are many opportunities at Regions.”

Advice for Building a Career at Regions

“I would say that you own your career, no one else does. Your manager and peers are there to help you along that journey, but ultimately you have to own your future and be very proactive in accomplishing goals to get where you want to be. Have fun along the way because life is a journey.”

Best Advice He’s Received

“A mentor once said, ‘Work hard, have a good attitude, and be coachable.’ If you can accomplish those three things, everything else will fall into place.”

Fun Fact

His father and grandfather were both business owners, and that entrepreneurial mindset was instilled at a young age. “I was a teen when I first realized I wanted to run a business. I think the consumer banking executive role really is about running the business.”
