Regions Foundation Announces Disaster-Recovery Grants for Key Areas Impacted by Recent Midwestern Storms

$60,000 in total funding to benefit individual and small business recovery in parts of Missouri and Indiana.

By Ashley Foster | May 23, 2025

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – May 23, 2025 – The Regions Foundation on Friday announced a series of grants totaling $60,000 to support disaster recovery following a deadly tornado that tore through St. Louis and surrounding communities May 16. The same storm system later brought destructive weather to portions of Indiana that are supported by the Regions Foundation.

The Regions Foundation is a nonprofit that is primarily funded by Regions Bank. In addition to providing disaster-recovery funding in areas served by Regions Bank, the Regions Foundation delivers grants addressing other, long-term issues such as economic and community development, education, financial wellness and more.

Organizations supported by the grants announced Friday will include:

  • The United Way of Greater St. Louis: The Regions Foundation is designating $25,000 of its recovery grant funding to support ongoing United Way initiatives within impacted areas of St. Louis City and surrounding communities. United Way efforts are focusing on organizing resources to meet initial food, shelter and cleanup needs while encouraging community support to meet longer-term needs.

  • The Urban League of Metropolitan St. Louis: The Regions Foundation is designating $25,000 of its recovery grant funding to support the Urban League’s temporary relief fund aimed at supporting recovery efforts for people, families and small businesses – including those in North City. The organization – which has long been connected to Regions Bank’s small business, workforce development and affordable housing strategy – will continue to provide support for those impacted within low- and moderate-income census tracts.

  • The American Red Cross: The Regions Foundation is contributing $10,000 to support Red Cross operations in Indiana’s Monroe and Greene counties, which were affected when the same weather system moved east of St. Louis and south of Indianapolis. Efforts supported will include ongoing damage assessments, emotional and financial support services and additional community needs through community partner collaborations.

“As people across the Midwest have begun to pick up their lives following these devastating storms, these three organizations have been alongside them every step of the way,” said Marta Mendes-Miguel Self, executive director of the Regions Foundation. “We are proud to provide funding to extend short- and long-term recovery efforts for the many people and businesses impacted.”

Scott Hartwig, market executive for Regions Bank in St. Louis, said the grants from the Regions Foundation reflect the latest examples of neighbors and organizations coming together to show solidarity and support.

“These were hard-hit areas where we live and work alongside impacted community members and businesses,” added Hartwig. “Seeing the devastation caused by these storms is jarring, and our local Regions Bank associates are so very thankful to our colleagues at the Regions Foundation for delivering these grants to these deserving organizations that will aid ongoing recovery needs well into the future. It means so much to so many.”
