5 Smart Habits for a Safer Digital Life

Regions associates share tips to strengthen your cybersecurity habits.

By Kenzie Sprague | October 22, 2025

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month – a great time to act now to protect yourself later.

Whether you’re protecting your family, your finances or your future, good cybersecurity starts with everyday choices.

From ditching passwords to securing the cloud, Regions’ Cybersecurity team shares 5 practical tips to help you stay safe online.

Build Cyber Habits That Stick

Cyber safety is like locking your doors. Do it at home, at work, and everywhere online. It starts with small habits like updating your devices often.

—Tim Lilly, Cyber Security Senior Manager

Switch to Passkeys for Smarter Sign-Ins

Passkeys are the future of secure sign-ins with no passwords, no phishing – just one-tap access with your fingerprint or face. Explore all sign-on options of the companies you do business with to help keep yourself secure.

—Sean McMahon, Cyber Security Senior Manager

Use Multi-Factor Authentication Everywhere

Multi-factor authentication plays a crucial part in protecting our digital identities. It adds layers of security that transforms a simple password into a fortified barrier against unauthorized access.

—Olaniyi Akinsanya, Cyber Security Senior Manager

Choose Privacy-Focused Browsers

Consider using a web browser with privacy in mind. There are browsers available that have features to protect your privacy, such as blocking ads and web trackers, and provide assurances that your information will not be sold to third parties. As an added security benefit some browsers are open source, which means the code is reviewed by a multitude of security researchers and developers, often leading to faster remediation of vulnerabilities.

—Laura Betts, Cyber Security Analyst

Think Before You Click

We’re all taught to look both ways before we cross the street. You should apply the same mentality when staying safe online. Did you expect this email? Is this the website you meant to visit? Does what the website is asking you to provide seem reasonable? Look both ways before online fraud impacts you.

—Adam Perino, Cyber Security Senior Manager
