Surrounding students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life.

Communities In Schools began in the 1970s, when a New York City youth advocate had the idea to bring community resources inside public schools — where they are accessible, coordinated and accountable.

CIS is the nation’s largest and most effective organization dedicated to keeping kids in school and helping them succeed in life. Our unique model positions site coordinators inside schools to access students’ needs and provide resources to help them succeed in the classroom and in life.

We partner with local businesses, social service agencies, health-care providers and volunteers. Whether it’s food, school supplies, health care, counseling, academic assistance or a positive role model, Communities In Schools is there to help.

Our programs make a difference. Parents As Teachers supports birth to 5 years of age, with parenting programs and literacy support. The Read to Succeed Summer Literacy Program provides students from K-5th grade with books to create a home library, while developing a love of reading

Reality U Financial Literacy is a one-day program, an in-school field trip, that allows students to realize that academic achievement yields fiscal health and wealth. Our Site Coordinator Programming supports students in school. We provide community resources to help them overcome barriers like irregular attendance, behavior issues, homelessness and grade repeaters to achieve high school graduation and life success.

The Mission

The mission of Communities In Schools is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve in life. Communities In Schools of Georgia in Marietta/Cobb County is a “Cradle to Cap” organization supporting children from birth to 18 years of age.

What Would You Do with $5,000 and a Day of Service?

We could hold our Reality U Financial Literacy Program for more than 700 students in 3-5 middle and/or high schools, and use the opportunity for Regions Bank employees to volunteer at the event.
