Capstone Adaptive Learning and Therapy Centers' mission is advancing independence for children and adults who have a spectrum of abilities and disabilities.
For 66 years, Capstone Adaptive Learning and Therapy Centers has advocated for inclusion and opportunity for individuals of all ages, ethnicities, and genders, who have developmental disabilities. Since 1953, we developed and implemented cutting-edge programs and services for children and students who are primarily on Medicaid, low-income and have significant physical, medical and cognitive disabilities.
Specifically, our High School-to-Work Transition Program helps youth prepare for adulthood. We provide Adult Day Training services for students who have physical, medical, cognitive or personal care needs. And our Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten prepares four-year-olds to succeed in school.
Last year, nearly 2,000 infants, children, youth and adults with and without disabilities (autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, etc.) and their families were assisted in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties. Programs include: group homes, adult day programs, Exceptional Student Education (ESE) Pre-K, child care, occupational/physical/speech therapies, nursing services, etc.
Our greatest accomplishment in the last 12 months are our two newest programs: Capstone Pet Place and Capstone Barkery (where student employees are responsible for ordering equipment and supplies, and making and baking all-natural treats).
With each program, we train students on soft (interpersonal) and hard (job) skills. Students are trusted with every aspect of their business responsibilities and earn at least minimum wage.
The Mission
Capstone Adaptive Learning and Therapy Centers’ mission is advancing independence for children and adults who have a spectrum of abilities and disabilities.
We accept individuals who other providers of disability services will not or cannot accept because they do not have RN/LPNs or appropriately trained staff. Our staff nurses provide medical oversight to ensure students who have serious medical needs, haveĀ experienced accidents, or are battling illnesses, can attend programs.
Capstone Academy offers the ONLY inclusive free public charter schools in Northwest Florida for Pre-K children who have developmental disabilities. Pre-K students interact with typically developing 4-year-olds attending Voluntary Pre-K to help with socialization, acceptance and tolerance.
What Would You Do with $5,000 and a Day of Service?
We would purchase educational and therapeutic equipment for our new portable classroom at Capstone Academy Pensacola. Our Day of Service would place Regions employees at each of our children’s and adult’s training programs for a day of fun — reading, games, cookout, etc.
