Seeing the World in a Whole New Light

How a Regions community partnership is bringing free vision screenings and glasses to students in need.

By Kim Borges | May 5, 2022

DALLAS, TEXAS – May 5, 2022 – More than 40 students at La Academia de Estrellas charter school in Dallas can see clearly now thanks to a community collaboration between Kids Vision for LifeSM (KVFL) and Regions Bank. A $5,000 sponsorship provided by Regions helped cover the cost eye exams and glasses for children in need.

Kids Vision for Life offers a solution to one of the main barriers low-income children face – access to vision care – by bringing its mobile vision clinics to schools. Students get eye exams and, in many cases, finished prescription glasses the same day, all at no cost to their family.

Through its engagement with La Academia de Estrellas, Regions Bank saw an opportunity to support students’ health and academic performance by providing access to vision care. Thanks to Regions’ involvement, KVFL was able to host an event at the school for the first time. The event’s impact included:

  • 42 students served
  • 40 students received prescription glasses
  • 16 students got glasses for the first time

In addition to sponsoring this event, Regions Bank distributed My Favorite Bank Book to educate students on how to make good financial decisions. This event was so successful that Regions Bank and KVFL are planning to bring vision care to another school this fall.

“Detecting vision impairment issues at an early age is critical,” says Tyrus Sanders, market executive for Regions Bank in Dallas. “The Kids Vision for Life program is providing vital, no-cost services to youth who might not otherwise have access to them. Regions Bank is proud to support KVFL’s outreach efforts to elevate health, empower classroom success, and instill self-confidence for students.”

“The partnership with Regions Bank is ideal, as people need the ability to see clearly to do well in school, apply for jobs and be successful in life,” says Becky Palm, president and executive director of Essilor Vision Foundation. “We are so honored to have Regions Bank’s support in making a difference in our community. Their donation and commitment to our mission help ensure that everyone has access to critical vision care and the opportunity to succeed in life.”
