Regions Foundation Announces $25,000 Commitment for Alabama Tornado Relief and Recovery

Contributions to support immediate and long-term needs in Fultondale, Center Point and surrounding areas.

By Jennifer Elmore | January 29, 2021

FULTONDALE, Ala. – Jan. 29, 2021 – The Regions Foundation, the nonprofit initiative of Regions Bank that supports community investments, on Friday announced a $25,000 commitment to help with immediate relief and long-term tornado recovery in Fultondale, Center Point and nearby areas.

From the $25,000 commitment, an initial allocation of $15,000 will be directed from the Regions Foundation to the American Red Cross of Alabama and Mississippi. Funding is to be used for immediate needs to help people affected by the violent tornado that swept through Jefferson County late Monday. The remaining $10,000 from the Regions Foundation will be allocated at a later date based on longer-term recovery needs that emerge in the weeks or months to come.

“Our hearts are heavy for those who have been impacted by the tornado in Fultondale, Center Point and surrounding communities,” said Alan Register, Metro Birmingham market executive for Regions Bank. “At the same time, we are encouraged by how people, businesses and nonprofits are joining forces to support the initial recovery and the long-term rebuilding. You can count on Regions Bank and the Regions Foundation to be here for our community during this time of recovery – and beyond.”

When a disaster strikes, the Red Cross provides various shelter, food, and health services, along with bulk distributions of needed items and immediate financial assistance. During COVID-19, for extra safety measures, the Red Cross is providing hotel rooms in lieu of traditional shelters where possible.

People needing assistance can call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-273-2767) for available resources and support. The Regions Foundation and Regions Bank also encourage additional people and businesses to consider ways they can support Red Cross relief efforts and related storm recovery.

“We are devastated by the loss of life and destruction left behind by the tornado, and our hearts go out to the victims. The Red Cross has been on the ground providing critical support to those affected, and we will continue to do so for however long we are needed,” said Mark Beddingfield, regional executive for the Alabama-Mississippi region of the American Red Cross. “Thanks to the generous help of donors, like the Regions Foundation, we’re able to respond to the needs of disaster survivors at a moment’s notice and continue to support our community during this difficult time.”

In addition to the Regions Foundation donation, Regions Bank maintains an ongoing customer assistance program for people and businesses who have been impacted by natural disasters. The program listens to customers’ unique needs and identifies areas where the bank may assist. Customers can call 1-866-298-1113 to discuss loan payment assistance (home equity and other consumer loans). Credit card services can be accessed by dialing 1-800-253-2265. Also, the Regions Mortgage Payment Assistance team can be reached at 1-800-748-9498. Additional banking needs can be discussed by calling 1-800-411-9393.
