Mentoring. Networking. Career Exploration. Regions Bank Announces Community Partnership with The Vasey Academy

University of Missouri program elevates access, academic and career success for underrepresented students.

By Kim Borges | March 9, 2021

COLUMBIA, Mo. – March 9, 2021 – Regions Bank and the University of Missouri on Tuesday announced a community partnership supporting The Vasey Academy, a program affiliated with the Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. College of Business. In addition to a $2,500 donation, bank associates will partner alongside Vasey Academy students to support mentorship and networking initiatives and participate in career exploration and financial education programming.

“The success of the Trulaske College of Business is built on our partnerships with members of the local and business communities, like Regions Bank,” Dean Ajay Vinzé said. “In supporting the college’s Vasey Academy, Regions Bank joins us in recognizing the importance of inclusion, diversity and equity efforts at Mizzou and in demonstrating our shared commitment to preparing students to enter the world of business.”

University of Missouri

Established in 1997, Vasey Academy was created to provide talented, underrepresented minority students with access to a variety of academic and experiential opportunities to build a foundation for future career success. Students must be business majors with a 3.25 or higher grade point average to be considered for the program. Vasey Academy participants receive a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship and have access to additional program-specific scholarships.

“The Vasey Academy provides students with a valuable combination of classroom content and interactive experiential learning,” said Scott Hartwig, market executive for Regions Bank in Missouri. “More importantly, this program elevates access for students and empowers them to consider any and all possibilities for their future careers in business. Regions is proud to support the Vasey Academy in demonstrating our commitment to education with this donation and through the volunteerism of our team members.”

Since its founding, nearly 900 students have participated in the Vasey Academy. Vasey graduates typically earn almost a 10% higher starting salary as a result of their program participation.
