John Turner Shares Regions’ Diversity Journey in American Banker Column

Turner explains the bank’s commitment to building a more open and welcoming workplace.

By Evelyn Mitchell | November 6, 2020

This year has presented everyone with unprecedented circumstances – such as a global pandemic and its related effects – but it has also given great opportunities. Opportunities to truly listen, understand, grow and act on what we have heard.

Over the past two years, Regions Bank has been on a journey toward fostering greater diversity, equity and inclusion across our organization. This includes an ongoing series of formal and informal conversations. This open dialogue is the foundation of the bank’s commitment to consistently building a more open and welcoming workplace.

We must listen with purpose — to understand, to grow and ultimately, to speak and act on what we’ve heard.
John Turner, Regions President and CEO

Regions President and CEO John Turner recently shared his perspectives on our journey, as well as his own personal experiences, and how the bank is moving forward. In a column published in American Banker magazine, John shares:

“Companies cannot effectively meet the needs of their customers, communities and associates if they are not willing to engage on issues that affect them. We will continue to listen, speak and act.”

In 2020, Regions established three key commitments: First, to continue building a culture of diversity and inclusion. Second, to focus on racial equity in talent development and progression. And third, to strengthen community partnerships, providing more opportunities to listen, speak and act.

Read Turner’s column in its entirety on the American Banker website linked here. Our journey has been under way for some time. But it is not over. Regions will share more examples of our progress as we continue moving forward – together.
