Inside My First SEC Media Days

My behind-the-scenes SEC Media Days experience.

By Janiya Patrick | July 31, 2025

This summer, I had the opportunity to intern at Regions Bank with the Marketing Communications Department, and one of the highlights of the experience was attending 2025 SEC Media Days in Atlanta.

As someone passionate about a future in journalism, I was beyond excited to step into this high-energy event for the very first time. Walking into the College Football Hall of Fame where the event was hosted, I could feel the buzz of anticipation in the air. Coaches, players, reporters, and sponsors all gathered, united by college football and the stories that surround it.

Regions has a long history of supporting college athletics, and being part of the Regions’ team at this Media Days put that commitment on full display.

The company plays a vital role in supporting one of college football’s most high-profile conferences and in presenting this preseason event which reinforces our deep ties to the communities and passions that shape the Southeast. Paul Hodges, Regions Experiential Marketing Strategy Manager

“Regions has worked with the Southeastern Conference for 30 years now, and Media Days serves as the unofficial kickoff for football season. It’s a great opportunity for Regions to be seen, provide opportunities to entertain customers and more,” said Paul Hodges, Regions Experiential Marketing Strategy Manager. “The company plays a vital role in supporting one of college football’s most high-profile conferences and in presenting this preseason event which reinforces our deep ties to the communities and passions that shape the Southeast.”

One of the most unforgettable parts of the day was getting to network with professionals in the media industry. Everywhere I turned, there were seasoned journalists, sports analysts, and broadcast crews covering every angle of the event – from the voices of star players to coaches, and to the commissioner of the SEC.

For me, it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. My goals were to learn, to meet the professionals there, to ask questions and to understand the skills and preparation required to cover significant events such as this. Each conversation gave me fresh insight into the fast-paced world of sports journalism, from storytelling techniques to tips for building relationships with sources.

In between interviews and press conferences, I toured the College Football Hall of Fame. Walking through its exhibits, I felt a deeper appreciation for the history and passion that shaped SEC football. There, I could see inspiring quotes from SEC football coaches who made an impact on the game.

The displays of legendary players, iconic games, and historic trophies reminded me why this conference holds a special place in fans’ hearts. It was the perfect backdrop to soak up the excitement and see firsthand how media coverage keeps that spirit alive year after year.

By the end of the day, I was both exhausted and inspired. SEC Media Days strengthened my desire to keep pursuing a career in journalism, telling stories that matter and bringing people closer to the moments that unite us. I’m grateful for Regions Bank for investing in young professionals like me and giving me a front-row seat to one of the biggest events in college sports.

Looking back, SEC Media Days wasn’t just about football, it was about connection, learning, and imagining where my passion for media can take me.
