In the Limelight: Sarah Suther

Connect CRE recognized the capital markets risk management professional for industry excellence.

By Michelle Engelhardt | November 20, 2024

Congratulations to Sarah Suther, an honoree in Connect CRE’s 2024 Women in Real Estate Awards.

Who:

Sarah Suther
Managing Director, Capital Markets Risk Management

What:

Connect CRE’s Women in Real Estate Awards recognize women demonstrating professional excellence, inspirational leadership and mentorship within the commercial real estate industry.

Connect CRE honored women from the 11 regions it offers news coverage in, including professionals in finance, brokerage, investment and real estate law, among other disciplines.

Why:

As partner to agencies Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and HUD, Regions Real Estate Capital Markets is a leader in multifamily and senior housing finance and completes loan transactions across the spectrum. There are always people behind the scenes playing a significant role in their closing success, and that includes Suther.

Suther joined Regions when the bank acquired Sabal Capital Partners in 2021. In her current role, she oversees credit risk management and provides approvals throughout the loan lifecycle, with oversight specific to Fannie Mae loan programs and products through its Delegated Underwriting and Servicing (DUS®) platform.

“I help to maintain strong credit risk discipline through the management of the Regions Real Estate Capital Markets lending portfolio by providing effective challenge to first line business partners in the review and consideration of all newly originated opportunities for Fannie Mae loan products,” Suther said. She handles approval for any material changes during loan servicing and elevated risk for loans, provides governance administration for applicable policies, and offers perspective on risk management during the development of new products and services.

Suther supported the Regions Real Estate Capital Markets team in noteworthy 2023 transactions. She served as credit risk partner on a $350 million structured credit facility provided to a large public REIT client, a $298 million bulk delivery execution under Fannie Mae for a large public REIT, and a $267 million bulk delivery execution for a REIT. “These transactions demonstrate the scale, complexity and customization that Regions Real Estate Capital Markets team can provide when assisting borrowers with financing solutions,” she said.

In Her Own Words:

“It’s an honor to be recognized as part of the Connect CRE’s Women in Real Estate Awards. I’ve been involved in the commercial real estate finance industry for nearly three decades and you will always come face to face with new challenges, which makes the journey exciting.”

Spotlight on Mentoring Resources

Today, I like to pay it forward and am part of two groups aimed at growing up-and-coming talent within Regions Bank.Sarah Suther, Managing Director, Capital Markets Risk Management

Mentorship has played a key role in Suther’s success story, and she is an advocate for getting involved in employee resource groups that support these relationships. “I personally have been fortunate to have found both female and male mentors, which I credit with helping me navigate various career challenges I’ve encountered along the way,” Suther said.

“Today, I like to pay it forward and am part of two groups aimed at growing up-and-coming talent within Regions Bank. The first is the Networking Circle for Regions Women of Risk Community. This community brings both industry veterans and younger women in the industry together for networking and professional growth. I look forward to future events with Regions.

“Additionally, I have participated in monthly mentoring discussions through Expanding My Circle – Women of Regions.”
