In the Limelight: Keren Treme and Cynthia Comford

Two Regions associates were recently recognized for their dedicated service to young adults with disabilities.

By Candace Higginbotham | September 25, 2025

Regions associates Keren Treme and Cynthia Comford were recently honored for their service and dedication to Horizons School, a Birmingham, Alabama organization, that supports young adults with disabilities.

Who

Keren Treme,

Community Engagement Financial Education Trainer

What

The Horizons School recently honored Treme and Comford with the 2025 Horizons School Community Partner Awards. The Horizons School provides a community-based educational program promoting successful transition to independent living for young adults with learning disabilities, autism spectrum and developmental disorders. The awards recognize community members who encourage student self-determination and independence, support school events and activities and help to promote public awareness of Horizons School.

Why

Treme has worked with Horizons School for the past three years, delivering financial wellness sessions to juniors and seniors. Regions’ award-winning Money Basics for Life curriculum is customized for people with disabilities and includes two learning modules, Managing Your Money and Credit and Identity Theft. These financial wellness lessons enhance independent living skills and help participants learn to make good financial decisions.

In Her Own Words

“Horizons is an incredible school dedicated to helping young adults learn how to live and work independently, and working with them has been such a rewarding experience! A key piece of independent living is financial confidence—understanding how to manage money, save wisely, use credit responsibly and protect against identity theft. The students, teachers, and staff at Horizons are truly amazing, and it’s inspiring to see the passion and dedication they bring every day. I am grateful for this community partnership and excited to continue watching it flourish and grow in the years ahead.”

Who

Cynthia Comford,

Relationship Banker in the Five Points South branch

What

Horizons School is committed to fostering independence and helping young adults thrive by offering a comprehensive approach that covers social skills, psychological support, life skills and education. According to Horizons, 35 percent of young adults with autism have not had a job or received postgraduate education after leaving high school. Over 80 percent of Horizons graduates have held paid jobs. Treme and Comford were nominated by faculty and staff for helping students achieve their goals and were honored at the school’s commencement exercises in August.

Why

Horizons School is just a few blocks from the Five Points South branch, where Comford has been a trusted advisor for 18 years. She works closely with students and their families to open bank accounts, address financial needs and provide personalized support. Her commitment goes beyond banking—she invests time and care to help each student confidently navigate their journey toward independence.

In Her Own Words

“The Five Points South branch has long been part of the support system for Horizons School and its students. They come from all over the country to attend, and I’ve had the privilege of meeting so many incredible families and young people. Watching these students grow in confidence and independence has been truly rewarding. Being recognized by the Horizons faculty and students was a genuine honor.”
