Grants from Regions Bank and Regions Foundation to Support COVID-19 and Tornado Relief in Northeast Louisiana

Contributions totaling $20,000 for United Way relief funds will meet urgent community needs.

By Jeremy King | April 28, 2020

MONROE, La. – April 28, 2020 – Regions Bank on Tuesday announced a $10,000 grant to United Way of Northeast Louisiana in support of the nonprofit’s COVID-19 Response Fund.

In addition, the Regions Foundation, an Alabama-based nonprofit initiative of Regions Bank that supports community investments, announced a separate $10,000 grant for the Tornado Relief Fund established by United Way of Northeast Louisiana following the Easter Sunday storms.

“Between the recent tornadoes and the ongoing pandemic, our community is facing two incredible challenges. It is our hope that this $20,000 combined contribution from Regions Bank and the Regions Foundation will help make this difficult time easier for the people of Monroe and Northeast Louisiana,” said Kevin Smith, Monroe Market Executive for Regions Bank. “We are invested in the success of our communities, and we are honored to support the work of United Way of Northeast Louisiana as its personnel connect people with vital resources.”

Funding will be used to support a variety of short-term and longer-term services related to the recent tornadoes and the coronavirus crisis.

“As always, Regions has a significant commitment to this community, and we are so appreciative of their generosity,” said Janet Durden, President of United Way of Northeast Louisiana. “This outstanding donation from our friends at Regions will help United Way of Northeast Louisiana ensure that people in Northeast Louisiana can access assistance when they need it most. Many of our neighbors who were affected by the tornado were already being affected by the COVID-19 crisis. These funds will assist with food security, food access, and housing stability for the COVID-19 response. Our goal for tornado relief efforts is to get people back into stable living conditions and recover from the disaster.”
