CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Feb. 7, 2022 – The Regions Foundation, a nonprofit organization primarily funded by Regions Bank, on Monday announced a $30,000 grant to support the YMCA of Greater Charlotte.
The grant will be used to cover costs associated with the YMCA’s Afterschool program at the Lake Norman, Keith Family, Morrison Family and Lowe’s YMCAs. Encouraging students to “excel after the bell,” the YMCA of Greater Charlotte’s Afterschool program offers three- and five-day options providing students with a place to play, learn and grow through educational and imaginative activities encouraging them to explore who they are and what they can achieve.

Founded in 1874, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte serves more than 300,000 people each year through a variety of programs, services and events. The organization’s Afterschool program provides engaging educational, physical and social-emotional activities that support holistic development for youth. Afterschool at the Y provides youth with dedicated time after the bell to focus on literacy, as well as other school subjects, in an effort to reverse the sharp declines in reading proficiency and literacy rates due to the pandemic and interruptions to traditional learning.

The new grant from the Regions Foundation is in addition to previous support provided by Regions Bank, which has helped fund the Y Readers program. In addition, bank associates have provided board and volunteer service for the Y.
