#BanksNeverAskThat: Spot Scams. Slay Scams.

Each week in October, we’ll provide new content to help you recognize the signs of a phishing scam. Remember, fighting fraud starts at home.

By Doug Segrest | October 2, 2026

The American Bankers Association’s #BanksNeverAskThat campaign is back, bringing a monthlong educational effort to help consumers recognize red flags and stop fraud in its tracks.

The campaign aligns closely with Regions Bank’s year-round commitment to fraud awareness and prevention. After all, one of the most effective ways to fight fraud is by recognizing the warning signs before becoming a victim.

Phishing scams are the primary way criminals try to gain access to your personal information and money.
Kimberly Reece, financial crimes customer advocacy manager at Regions Bank

“Phishing scams are the primary way criminals try to gain access to your personal information and money,” said Kimberly Reece, financial crimes customer advocacy manager at Regions Bank. “Our goal is to educate our customers, so they’re better protected. We do that by providing shareable, interactive content that can be passed along to family and friends to help keep them safe.

“That’s especially true when we’re looking out for teens and our elders. These groups are often among the most frequently targeted by criminals.”

The first step is learning to recognize the signs of a phishing scam. Fraudsters commonly use emails, phone calls and text messages to trick people into sharing sensitive information.

And it’s big business. According to the ABA, scammers stole an estimated $68 billion from Americans last year.

The ABA’s advice is simple: Stop Scams. Slay Scams.

In other words, be a scam slayer. Throughout the month, we’ll take a closer look at the latest tactics scammers use and share practical tips to help you stay protected.

“We invest significant time and resources in fraud education, so supporting #BanksNeverAskThat is a natural fit and something we look forward to each year,” said Jeff Taylor, senior vice president in the Regions Corporate Banking Group. “The ABA’s message is simple and consistent, and it teaches consumers how to be their own first line of defense.”
