Rob Lindsey has always loved giving back. A second generation Eagle Scout, serving others is part of his heritage. Today, Lindsey is cultivating a new generation of community leaders.
A year ago, Lindsey founded a new unit of the Greater Tampa Bay Council of Boy Scouts of America.
“As Cubmaster, I manage all programming for the unit,” says Lindsey. “That includes several fundraising drives, multiple community outreach projects, and activities that promote diversity and teamwork.”
Lindsey’s unit has organized veterans events, conservation efforts, food drives and flag retirement ceremonies. In each activity, Lindsey makes sure the scouts understand the needs of their community and realize how their work can make a difference.
“We recently purchased and planted flowers with mulch at a local church,” Lindsey says. “Every year we go to a local foodbank to help sort food, while receiving a lesson on the effects of hunger on young children. This helps them make a connection between community service and meeting basic needs.”
Commending his outstanding work and devotion to scouting, Regions Bank presented Lindsey the Better Life Award on Wednesday. The Better Life Award is the top honor given to a Regions associate for outstanding dedication and job performance, as well as exemplary involvement and commitment to the community.
Together with the Better Life Award recognition, Regions donates $1,000 in the name of the recipient to a nonprofit organization of the winner’s choice. Lindsey chose the Greater Tampa Bay Council of the Boy Scouts because of his work with the group.
Lindsey says it’s his honor to serve his scouts and the community. He encourages everyone to identify their passion, find an organization that supports that passion, and help the organization carry out its mission.
“Don’t be afraid to give of your time and energy,” Lindsey says. “Always leave things better than you found them.”
