Bringing the Tradition to Life: Diebold Nixdorf

A global banking and retails solutions provider, Diebold helps sustain the tournament’s longevity as a Platinum sponsor.

By Doug Segrest | May 21, 2025

The life of high-stakes business can be taxing with endless meetings and trips, not that he would ever complain. But Ed Hammann welcomed a respite last week. More importantly, he felt at home for the Regions Tradition.

“I’m a little partial because I’m a golfer, but the week of the Regions Tradition is one of my favorite weeks of the year,” said Hammann, the Senior Director of Strategic Accounts for Diebold Nixdorf, a company that provides banking and retail services across the globe.

Diebold has been a strong ally with Regions for many years.” Greg Gagliano, head of Enterprise Operations at Regions Bank

So many companies help bring the Regions Tradition, the first major event on the schedule of the PGA TOUR Champions each year. But Diebold’s contribution as a Platinum sponsor helps ensure the Tradition’s longevity in Birmingham, as well as the flow of charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations – most notably, Children’s of Alabama.

But the connection starts with business, specifically 1,160 of a fleet of 2,010 ATMs across Regions’ 15-state footprint. Diebold Nixdorf also provides point of sale, branch drive-up and physical security solutions to keep tellers and customers safe.

“Diebold has been a strong ally with Regions for many years,” said Greg Gagliano, head of Enterprise Operations at Regions Bank. “They are more than a supplier. They are a strong vendor that works with us for mutual success, not someone that takes an order and goes on to the next deal.”

When we come to the Tradition, it’s more about the relationship we have with Regions.” Ed Hammann, Senior Director of Strategic Accounts for Diebold Nixdorf

A few years ago, business across the globe was disrupted by post-pandemic supply chain issues and Diebold was hit as hard as anyone.

“But they never wavered on their commitment to supporting Regions’ existing products and services – and their sponsorship of the Regions Tradition,” Gagliano said. “To me, that just further demonstrates their association with Regions. As a provider to Regions, they are reliable and experienced with stable solutions that, in the end, benefit our customers.”

Diebold kicked off Tradition week by hosting a pro-am at Greystone Golf and Country. Joining Hammann for events of the week were Joe Myers, a member of Diebold’s executive leadership team, and Chad Buckland, a senior vice president and General Manager of Sales for North America.

Also joining them were key members of Diebold’s team, including Mike Cavender, who’s responsible for physical security, and Angela Fisher, who oversees day-to-day service. Hammann, who is based in Louisville, Kentucky, made the long drive to start off the week. The fact that this team travels to Birmingham to support the Tradition speaks volumes.

“When we come to the Tradition, it’s more about the relationship we have with Regions,” Hammann said. “We don’t bring products. Joe Myers will be in attendance because we value the commitment to both the company and this event.”

While the Tradition occupies one week on the calendar, Diebold’s goal is to drive Regions’ efficiency year-round with secure solutions.

“I’ve personally been involved the last five years, but I’ve been with Diebold 21 years and our relationship with Regions goes much further back,” Hammann added. “A lot of people throw terms around. As I’ve gotten older, I realize that, with Regions, it’s true cooperation and we appreciate it.”
