SEC Sneak Peek with Chris Doering

Ex-Florida Gator star and current SEC Network analyst says Georgia is playing for history. (But don’t sleep on LSU).

By Mel Campbell and Doug Segrest | August 17, 2023

Few student-athletes arrive on college as a walk-on, then parlay that into a seven-year NFL career, but Chris Doering has taken his unlikely story even further. He’s now in his ninth season as a college football analyst for the SEC Network and ESPN, where he’s noted for his insight – and his strong opinions.

In his hometown of Gainesville, Florida, though, he’s still a Gators legend. He’s a member of the University of Florida Athletic Hall of Fame for good reason. He left campus with three SEC titles and the conference record for receiving touchdowns, a mark he held for a quarter of a century until Alabama Heisman winner DeVonta Smith passed him in 2020.

Just ask anyone in Florida about “The Catch.” They won’t hesitate to tell you Doering’s place in Gators lore.

At SEC Media Days in Nashville, Doering took the time to give Doing More Today readers a glimpse into the upcoming college football season.

Let’s start with history.

No school has won three straight national titles since the University of Minnesota did so prior to World War II.

He has good news for Georgia, which he predicts will not only win the SEC but take its third consecutive national title.

But Doering isn’t expecting another Georgia-Alabama SEC showdown in Atlanta.

“I don’t think people are giving LSU enough credit right now,” Doering said. “I really feel like the progress they made from the start of last season … was pretty amazing.”

He’s also got picks for a breakout team from the SEC East – this one may surprise you – and a new quarterback who’s a difference maker.

Got a minute? Let’s let Chris Doering break down the upcoming SEC season for you.
