Investing in the Future: Regions Bank, Tuscaloosa Chamber Celebrate the Opening of new Downtown Branch, Workforce Center

State-of-the-art branch and modern workforce facility reflect the strength of community partnership.

By Alicia Anger | May 18, 2021

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – May 18, 2021 – Regions Bank and the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama on Tuesday cut the ribbon and celebrated the grand opening of one of Regions’ most modern branch facilities, as well as the opening of the West Alabama Workforce and Community Development Center.

The new Regions branch in downtown Tuscaloosa adds more convenient technology and personalized service from local bankers to the overall customer experience, and the creation of the Chamber’s workforce and community development center will lead to further economic collaboration and job creation in the area. The workforce and community development center is housed in Regions’ former downtown branch, right around the corner from the new branch.

“Today, we are doing more than cutting a ribbon to open a new bank branch and a new workforce development center. Today represents significant new investments in the local economy that will impact our community and businesses in West Alabama for years to come,” said Elizabeth Winter, Tuscaloosa market executive for Regions Bank. “We know the improved functionality and look of our new, state-of-the-art branch will provide a pleasant and efficient banking experience for our customers. And we are honored that the Chamber is repurposing our former home around the corner to support more business expansion and job opportunities throughout the area.”

Regions Bank has been providing customers with the highest levels of service while reimagining the future of banking. Along with the latest banking technology in the new branch, customers will be greeted upon arrival by local bankers who can assist with virtually all branch-banking needs without having to be referred to other bankers for certain specialized services.

Among innovations, the new branch offers Regions Video Banking ATM service in addition to face-to-face service from local teams. The Video Banking ATMs use real-time video to connect customers with Regions professionals during an expanded set of hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.

The branch at 800 22nd Avenue replaces Regions’ longtime downtown facility on Ninth Street. Regions sold the Ninth Street facility to the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama at a price below market value for the creation of the regional economic, community and workforce development center.

“This ribbon cutting ceremony celebrates how community partnerships can achieve great results,” said Jim Page, President and CEO of the Chamber. “Regions saw the value in our goal of creating a center for workforce development, job creation, and opportunities for collaboration among like-minded organizations, and helped make this game-changing facility possible.”

With Phase I of the workforce center’s renovation project complete, Camgian, Habitat for Humanity of Tuscaloosa, Junior Achievement of Tuscaloosa County, and the Junior League of Tuscaloosa have joined the Chamber and West Alabama Works in operating out of the facility. Additional organizations are expected to locate there soon.

Local elected and community leaders attended the ribbon cutting. Tours of the facility were given by Regions teams and Chamber Ambassadors. Two lucky attendees also received a Regions LifeGreen Cruiser Bike.
